Why does a kitcar need an iva my soninlaw bought a discovery chassis put a shortened landrover one ten body on it with all area`s modified,it has a rangerover diesel engine in it modified suspension for green laning.Having put a kit through IVA test I know that the rear lights are illegal the front indicators are illegal and who know what else.He finished sent to VOSA with a brief summary of work done and the V5 for the chassis and he gets a new V5 quick MOT and its on the road,he has some knowledge of building vehicles but how many are on the road built by the numties of this world.

Always been the same if you use the original chassis no matter how much you modify it, look at some of the VW beach buggys. Just need a MoT and then only if you are using one post 1960. Mad but that's the way the rules are.

Either whoever registered it at DVLA doesn't understand the system or your son in law made sure that the summary was worded to suit his registration requirements.

Either way, with the modifications stated, it's a radical alteration and should have a BIVA test. Should also go on a Q plate because there's not enough parts of the original vehicle to qualify for the original reg under the points system.

Beach buggys and older builds might circumvent the test if there's "substantial evidence" to demonstrate that they were constructed prior to 1998.

A= Europe......

Countrys like Belgium really do not want amateurs playing/modifying cars.......as we are now European we must play by their rules it often dont make any kind of sense.
