Thought i might get round to fitting hood to Hood, I know its bleeding baltic up here but the hood seems about an inch short even without using the roof bars :nea: . The reinforced seem sits on the roll bar ok and I do have alligator bonnet any suggestions / measurements would be a help

many thanks in anticipation from one who had to drive from Newcastle to Dundee in a monsoon at the end of August lost 1 windscreen wiper on Edinburgh by pass , why is it always the drivers side? :( ps wing mirrors no longer there

When I compare it to my Exmo, then I would say, yes your screen is mounted a little too far forward. By about an inch.

However, they are two different cars and what is correct for one, may not be so for the other.

You don't need a big overlap down the back panel. The poppers should be fitted so their upper edges are just below the top of the panel by a couple of mm. Then the other half of the popper needs to go with it's centre about 20mm from the edge of the fabric. If you fit the central rear popper to anchor the hood the front edge of the hood material should overlap onto the front surface of the screen frame when pulled with one finger thumb grip. It shouldn't need stretching at this stage. (The roof bars will tension it later.) If it doesn't do this then Yes your screen is too far forward.

Hi.my hood fits really well. I will take measure nt from roll bar to screen for you later on and post it here for you.

Ken

Hi Derek. The measurements on my 2B are

1 inner edge of roll bar directly to inner edge of screen top edge = 1004mm.

2 bottom of rear popper studs to bottom edge of screen popper studs without bracing studs = 1720mm.

If figure 1 is more than that on yours, your windscreen is further forward than mine.

That dose not mean that yours is wrong. 2B measurements usually are all over the place.

If your cover is to shot, try getting it warm in your boiler cupboard, then stretch it while still warm and fit to your car while still warm and

leave it on till it goes cold.

Hope this is of use to you Derek regards Ken W

If the screen is to far forward fit awning rail and stitch awning tape to the hood that way you will gain about an inch and get a much better seal than with poppers. One of the best mods I did on my car

the 2b bonnet normally has vents for demist. If your screen is lined up with those then it will be in roughly the correct place. It could be tipped forward too much so the screen is more vertical but then the bottom of the mounting will not be level.

The entire bonnet could be slightly forward i guess which would again cause your issue

as above you might find it need stretching a bit or a bit of a mod

Cheers guys

I have a couple of days hols so I can get a tape measure out I Will probably not be fitting the hood for a while yet ,more to the point don't know if I am flexible enough at the moment to get in if the hood was on (dodgy knee awaiting probable replacement according to the specialist) so I get in the car and someone puts the hood on sounds like the answer.

Ta muchly

Derek

P.S

Posted on a mobile phone so excuse any errors

Before you start, you might want to count up the number of pop studs you have been given, against how many holes are in the hood. The hood has 24 holes and you have probably been given 20 pop studs!
