Windscreen Mounting Brackets

How did you guys bend the windscreen mounting brackets to the shape of the scuttle???

I bent mine around a length of 110mm plastic waste pipe. Just bent a bit at a time and lots of trial fitting.

1st time round I used a couple of scaffold poles and a big hammer, 2nd time used a sand bag and a big hammer. 2nd time I think was easier, but they were 7 years apart.

I used one of the old wooden phone poles, one of my neighbors came running out thinking I was up to some thing!

Bench Vice , 2 inch round piece of wood, 12" adjustable spanner

 

No hammering, just gently bend the bracket into shape by holding in the vice and bending around the wood with lots of trial fitting. In short lots of small movements and lots of checking - just like you're making a Wallace and Gromit film....

 

To put the twist in I clamped the upright in the vice horizontally and used a 12" adjustable spanner to twist the lower section - again many small twists and check often.

two pieces of timber on the floor with a gap between them to sit the section to be curved, then run over it slowly with the tyre part of a tintop car, nice and slowly stop when curved enough worked for me!
