Trestles

Recommended Posts

First build and need some trestles. All the ones I can find only quote a max load of 150-200 kg (not sure if that is per trestle or per pair) - is that enough for the chassis and up to rolling chassis?

If so, any preference for wood, plastic or metal?

Easy enough to make your own with a few bits off scaffolding pole and a few firings.

Design them like a set of parallel bars to run length ways along your car wit two small cros braces ner the top to join one side to the other to stop them spreading.

These would be stron enough to take the full car weight.

You could then fit your engine and everything else at a comfy height.

When done strip down and store for future use.

Count it as part of the build.. Home done, by your own hands.

I used (& have still got ) 2 x pallet rack ends 600mm high & 4 beams 2,400mm long . used with the odd 4 x 2 or scaffold board across the frame allowed access to all areas & somewhere to have tools close by, this saved the back-breaking "on the floor" work. When up to rolling chassis stood wheels on 6" concrete blocks.

Free to borrow if you have transport.

You can buy a lot of car parts, beers or even cake with that amount of money.

They do look good.

The only real critisysm I have is are they safe work load marked.

If not it might be a case of "on your own head be it"

Do they have cross bars at the top for your car to sit on. If not, they need to be width adjustable.

Either that or make your chassis to fit them and not the car body.

The second set look heavy duty and safe enough. Cannot see the first set in detail.

Possibly the same but more expensive.

Having studied the full site, I am sure they would do you for the full build, and servicing your car later on.

Only thing to think about is wheel size.

If your garage floor is smooth no issue.

If not smooth, I'd go for the H/D ones with larger wheels like I am about to do.

I've got mine on a pair of Black & Decker Workmates, it's been on there since 2008 & they've not given way yet. Mine's practically at a rolling chassis now, I'm going to drop it down to fit the engine & gearbox though.
