Having sent off my IVA application on Friday for the second time (I had somehow managed to previously send an out of date copy...) I have just recieved an email asking me to ring them to pay.

I'm actually fairly surprised impressed by the speed of their service, considering what I've heard from other people!

It states in the email that they are currently processing applications received around a week ago, so I am hoping that it won't be too long until I can get a test date.

Not too certain whether I'll pass on a couple of things, mostly emissions, but I'm aiming just to get the test done to get a checklist of what needs to be corrected- most people seem to fail first time anyway. Having said that, I think I've made every effort I can to comply with the IVA standards in every other situation so hopefully the list won't be too long and I might even be able to get out on the road this summer.

Here's a link to a picture of the interior;

I'll try to upload some more photos soon but that's the most up to date one I have right now.

What are your opinions on the cycle wing indicators? I'm not sure if they will pass due to sharp edges.

Any tips or pointers would be brilliant.

Looks superb.

Just check the rear fog light switch is radius ed enough.

I have the same switch and it seems a bit "pointy"!!

Mine was behind the steering wheel so it was exempt from the dome test.

Hi all,

Having been in touch with them over the past week upon their request for more photographs to be sent (oddly they didn't understand at first that the body is a monocoque type, not a tubular chassis) they have finally accepted my application and I rang VOSA Kidderminster this afternoon to book an appointment for 8:00am on 07/08/2015.

I've changed the cycle wing indicators for IVA compatible ones, fitted a secondary electric fan (to cope with the hot weather, I'm planning on installing a new radiator in the nosecone at some point when it's on the road instead) and tidied up lots of other parts in general.

I bolted large 8mm thick spreader plates to the floor for the lower seatbelt mounts with locknuts to prevent the bolts coming loose. I bolted angle iron to the underside of the floor beneath the seat rails to spread weight more effectively, and it has worked; the seats don't move and the floor no longer flexes. The two outer lower seatbelt bolts are bolted through about 15mm of structural steel so I don't believe spreader plates are required for those (I'll wait and see).

The exhaust covers have brushed aluminium lookalike trim glued on to prevent the tester getting to the angle iron and clamps holding the exhaust silencer in place.

The chrome trim around the gearstick gaitor looks rubbish and wont stick to the surround well, but I'm reluctant to fix it any more permanently as it'll be coming straight off after the test anyway.

I've used some needles files and emery cloth to radius the edges of the rear fog light switch.

The wing mirrors were already bolted through thick aluminium plates to reduce vibration, and I have fitted a thin layer of rubber squeezed between the scuttle and these plates which reduces vibration further.

I'm fairly confident that there are no sharp edges left now, but I've come across another problem which I am aiming to look into tonight; one of the camshaft valves has started making a tapping sound. I'm hoping that i won't remove the rocker cover to find a massively worn camshaft but who knows... At least I have some incentive to fix it quickly with the IVA this close!

Just fixed the camshaft noise- one of the valve adjuster lock nuts had come loose and was spinning around.. Now fixed and running smoothly. Also fitted a new oil spray bar just in case

Who's a lucky lucky boy then.

Adjuster lock nuts don't fare well in the sump.

Or bits of the smashed followers.

Lucky lucky boy.

Still you had the sence to look quickly and repair it, even thou under stress and pressure of the fore coming IVA.

Good spot and well done.

Quick, run to the Lottery shop.
