Help With Cam Indentification And Cylinder Head

Recommended Posts

A transit cam and an engine that has all it's power low down could mean that you have a low compression engine from a transit van.

I don't know how they reduced the compression, whether it was the block, the pistons or the head. Pistons would seem the obvious and easy way to do it and I think the blocks are marked with LC near the 205

Hi, doesn't appear to be any marks near the 205 mark but will take a closer look. Thanks

Had a good look round, definitely no LC on the engine anywhere.

When we took pics of cam markings we used a mirror to reflect the image.

Cam number is Actually S851 not 158S.

If I use this number it shows up as a 2.0L injection Transit - but also states this was possibly used in a 1.6 sierra as well.

So I am assuming that the cylinder head will be the same for all 2.0L injection heads and the cam will have been for a transit. If I replace the cam then I should see some noticeable differences.

Thanks for all the help

According to the info I've seen, S851 is equivalent to Ford 6062844. This is fitted to pinto 1.3, 1.6, 2.0E and Transit 1.6 and 2.0

The only ways to tell if an engine is low compression is

LC on the piston

Measure deck height that is how far down the bore the piston is at TDC

or a compression test which will give a rough estimate

OK, super. Thanks guys

From what we can tell - we have a 2.0L injection Head with a standard transit cam in.

At least I can start to work on it now we have an idea of what we actually have
