Header Tank

I need a coolant header tank for a 2004 (?) 2 litre Zetec - any suggestions about what to get?

 

Is it an advantage to be as big as possible or is size not important? Shape significant - flat, round, deep?

Had to be a round horizontal alloy one for mine due to space and height restrictions. Got it off eBay and was made in UK, chap also altered the feed and return connections to the positions that I wanted. He also supplied the cap.

I never used one I just fitted a one litre over flow tank like you had on a pinto never had a problem

But isn't a suck/blow system more likely to introduce airlocks?

Hmm, I sense a flaw in my plan - I want to use the OEM thermostat which doesn't have a filler cap obviously. I guess I'd have to use the filler cap on the radiator but does the GBS rad have a cap? And the rad is not vertical is it? Can you use a rad with a filler cap if it isn't fitted vertically?

 

Also, I can't find an expansion tank like the GBS one - they're all the standard header type. I guess I could use one of those if the pipe from the stat goes in at the bottom and the real overflow from the top pipe?
