In Good Old Hoody Style

Spent the other day trying to match a red on a bumper bar which turned into a hell of a job. What I needed was a sun gun which in layman terms is a very bright lamp that runs at full power at 3000 lux but at over £599 each :o :shok: and is a useful tool which we had at work when I worked in a bodyshop. I'm not going to rush out and get one anytime soon but I have heard of people in the trade make them out of an old cordless drill so thought I'd give it a go.

One old cheap 14,5 V drill with a burnt out motor which was bought in a supermarket sale about 10 years ago for about a fiver, stripped of its inners.

A quick mark up and rub down and a coat of primer, a bit of a custom paint job with any old base coat I had left over and a couple of

coats of clear.

A MR16 bulb holder soldered on to the wires that went on to the motor from the trigger and a 12v 40w bulb.

Body of the drill reassembled making sure not to go mad and over tighten the screws around the bulb so not to crack it!

plug the battery pack on and one working sun gun :D

All in all a couple of hours work in between jobs and a cost of under a tenner :good: A good old hoody build

does what I need it to do and if I ever win the lottery I may get the proper one ;)

No I wont will just retire instead :p

Sorry Chris you're 12 years plus out of date -- built a 12volt 50watt torch -- submitted to Dewalt & the reply was -- tahnks but no thanks we have already made our own.
