Two very nice Robin hoods were at Greetham, Rutland last night. One red and one blue parked together.

Didn't see any one with them, after I had a pint and a burger they had gone.

Hope to see them next time to!

It's Deffo there cars.

If you would have put a bucket under the red one, you might have got yourself some free engine oil.

Or has it stopped dripping now Paul?

To all out there.

Last weekend nearly wrecked his engine.

I was behind him and noticed masses of oil gushing out from under his engine.

He was going at quite a pace when it happened but luckily we stopped at a garage for fuel just about 200 meter ahead.

I told hom about it and on investigation found his oil filter seal blown.

Luckily being a local, he knew where to get a new filter.

After changing the filter and dipping the oil it was found with no reading on the dipstick.

Filling up took most of a full can of oil.

That must have been seconds from catastrophe.

Moral of the story,

THE ONLY WAY TO TIGHTEN A FILTER PROPERLY IS LIGHTLY OIL THE SEAL. SCREW THE FILTER ON HAND TIGHT. GIVE IT AN EXTRA 1/4 TURN WITH A RATCHET STRAP.

NO NEED TO ARGUE. I AM RIGHT. ASK PAUL.

Message to ALL the above is all very very true. Don't think I will bother with a lottery ticket as I think I had all my luck in one go.

That's the exact right time to get one.

If you do and you win, why would it bother you putting a new engine in.

Either that or buy yourself an original cobra 427.

Surely a split seal on the oil filter means the pressure relief valve in the oil pump is sticking. I have the same thing on my Pinto and it forced the seal out between the filter and the block. If I'd not seen it myself, I wouldn't have thought it was possible and I've fitted literally hundreds of filters.

I turned out that the PRV in the pump had seized, it did free itself off almost immediately but I dropped the sump as a precaution and when I took the pump apart, it had sucked up some metal debris (trapped steel shot from having the sump blasted). Fortunately the engine was OK and I got away with just replacing the pump.

NO NO No if you put a spin on oil filter hand tight + bit BY hand Never ever tighten by any other means!!!!! :acute: . I have had new oem filters spit the seal out as well as unknowns but at times I was changing perhaps 10/15 a week ,busy agency !The only thing is to check after running and cooled down by hand it might go up a bit  mick

Read the service manuals chaps read the manuals.

Been on enough courses in my time working for different dealerships.

Besides that, Pauls has a high pressure pump.

It didn't split the seal, it blew part of it out of the seating.

It was on very hand tight.

1/4 turn chaps with lubricated seal. If the seal is not lubricated, that's when problems arise.

Brake down fitter virtually since leaving school. Even during spell with REME.

1/4 turn. It's even been shown on the TVs numerous errors times on motoring programmes.

Car sos was one that comes to mind . Then another with Ed.

I have never in my life had a failure.

Best job ever as far as pay went was a nice trip to Italy hen working for ERF. Got there to find the fuel filter lose. Tightened that and on a quick check over found primary and main oil filters both leaking.

Asked the driver when his last service was and he replied "the night before I left"

I am not saying you must do this but, from my experience, wide filter strap, 1/4 turn after hand tight.
