For the last six or seven years I have been having a run up to the Borders on New Year's Day, this year I put it off till today as snow was forcast for the Carter Bar area for yesterday. I set off with the usual no doors or roof after having to defrost the car as it was only 2 degrees! I went up the A696 to A68 as far as Jedburgh having to be very careful in any shaded areas as there were patches of ice in a lot of places. I hoped to stop for a coffee in Jedburgh but everything was closed so I carried on through Kelso, Coldstream, Duns and into Berwick. I got my cup of coffee and filled up with petrol having done 125 miles so far. The temperature had warmed up to 4 degrees but the ice patches remained in the shade.  Came back down the A697 through Wooler and home having covered 175 miles in 4 hours, not one car overtook me and I only had to pass four cars on the whole route. No such thing as being too cold just wear suitable clothing, Big smile on my face l loved every minute of it.
