Nice idea but I think 2 weeks would be too long, 1 week max.

Aviemore, yes nice place and the roads around there are fun.

Inverness might be a good base because its an easy distance from the top of Scotland (Dunnet Head not John O Groats) And there is some nice views their :D

Also it would be a good base for tours to the West coast or the East Coast

Gordon

Although there's absolutely nothing to see in John O Groats.

Agree with that but it is a must to visit if you are this far up, and it has plenty of car parking space that would look really good full of Hoods

I think we need a few more polls to find a few things out. Take the original list that Exmodave first put up (in the first post) and do a poll on each one.

I'll only go for a few days and would prefer to move around i.e. do a loop of Scotland and camp in a tent.

weather wise-

april tends to be a mix of mild but showery weather- usually not too extreme, if you get caught in a shower, wait an hour and its gone and beginning to dry again.

may either dry and warm all month - or rains every day.

june late june tends to be better

july, aug, sep - proper summer, most likely to get long dry days and americans

october, can be surprising, this year it has sucked (rained actually...), but li have gone camping over the school holiday week in the past.

just my opinion based on 30+ years of experience of scottish summertime.

So who wants to go, lets have names please, tell me for how long, 1 week or 2weeks. I personally would like to go for a week and do the middle of scotland, july seems good. Avimore - is it not to high up for a lot of us, 7 - 8 hour plus to get there.

Only 2 definates so far. Looking at a long weekend, thursday night to monday night or tuesday morning, looking at making enquiries around the dunfries / loch ken area for a couple of nights then move further up on the second days outing to say mid Scotland, Oban , Loch Lomand, this will give the southern lads a chance to come.

Will start enquiries next week.

What do you think, or am I wasting my time trying to organise this.

great news then, keep the "Im coming," coming in, I will be basing the trip on a a long weekend, not to far up Scotland, Dumfries area + hows about a trip through Edinborough, that would look good, all parked up outside the castle entrance. B) . just a thought, something to do with me :D

Glad to see rizla's prepared to travel up, more the better.
