  1. Hello, i am thinking of treating myself to a new exhaust, mine is the standard 2B one and i cannot get a paint that will stay on the silencer...yep even tried the B&Q BBQ paint, As i use the car all year round i decided a stainless one may be a bit hard to maintain, the headlights are enough polishing for me. So i decided maybe a carbon fibre silencer on the original 2B tubes? I have seen these on some cars and look surprisingly nice! I saw some of these on ebay a while ago but none since. Anyone know of any companies selling nice ones? only want to spend about £100, max £150 Thanks for the help, hope your all having a fun bank holiday tinkering!

    Best Diff To Use?

Well just looked at my diff and the tag was still there, much to my surprise On the diff itself it is stamped with a F, anyone know if that relates to anything, as the tag looks like this. 85GG BC 362 A 0M1 1 Bit confused by this as this. Is the 362 relating to the ratio as i hope or is it the A? as from reading this post i was just expecting a letter? Thanks Simon
  3. Hi Jim, Europa do a range of these, i think thats where i got mine from

    Best Diff To Use?

I feared you may say that what was the outcome from this post. Did everyone decide on the best diff to have? Mine is has a LSD if that makes a diffence?

    Best Diff To Use?

Hi, is there a marking on the diff to identify it, or just on the tag, which is not there :gdit: If so where is it? Thanks

    Bucket Seats

Hello, i am looking for some good quality buckets seat for my 2B. I currently have some seats from a rover 620 which do the job, but obviously some nice bucket seats would be good if anyone has some unwanted ones lying about. Ideally black in color. Let me know if anyone has anything suitable or knows a good place to buy them. Thanks Simon

    38 Dgas

I had the same problem, there are two types of inlet manifolds for the pinto engine. The one you need is from a capri, cortina or early sierra. Best get going round those scrap yards tommorrow, or ebays a good bet or even better stick something in the wanted section, thats how i came by mine.
  9. Hi there, i am currently in the process of converting my sliding pillar suspension to Double Wishbone. Does anyone know what rating the springs and shocks need to be for this? If anyone has done this conversion and has any advice to save me making any mistakes it would be very welcomed. Thanks Simon
  10. Hi, i have currently a 2L pinto with standard carb, but by luck my dad has got a 38DGAS carb which i belive was fitted to the 3L Capris and Scimiters. Unfortunatly i have the inlet manifold that it does not fit so does anyone have a inlet manifold that this will fit? I think they were on the capris and early Sierra's Thanks Simon
  11. Hi Dave, is it the 2.9 V6? i just got the cosworth version to put in my 2B but after a bit of measuring it is a major job! Chasis needs modifying, pedals and server need to be moved, bonnet raised, steering, well god knows about the steering as it passes straight through where the engine needs to go? But i am keeping the engine and it is a ongoing project, so if you manage it please keep me informed. Thanks Simon
  12. Thanks Dave, dont think i can make it tommorrow, probably off up to cumbria with my girlfriend to pick up her car as the gearbox broke last time we were up there, if its finally fixed!! :gdit: Not going in the 2B though, not sure i fancy a 4 hour solid drive in it yet. Thinking about it my dad has a handheld gps that i got him from work so i will have to pop and see him and see how far out mine is. Also going to pop to the local weighbridge on mondya to see how heavy this thing is. Hopefully its around 800kg and then i suppose start hitting the engine with a big hammer.
  13. Good point, i think its a bit out, seem to remember 60 was in fact about 55 on speedo, may have to get a bike speedo or simular to do a bit of a more accurate test. Ill check that diff thing as well cause knowing my luck i have the rubbish one!
  14. definatly 3rd, juses you would need some ear plugs in 2nd? can 2nd get you to 60 without killing the engine??
  15. well as my rev counter mysteriously does not work, just shoots up to 3K mark when turning off engine?? i am not quite sure, usally when i feel i can take no more noise without losing my hearing!! No i think i am changing right, i did a bit of testing first to see at what stage the maximum power was reached. So changed gear just before the gear stoped pulling. would the incorrect diff make much difference? Do you know how much your car weighs roughly? Cheers for all the advice by the way!!
  16. I hope its not Knackered, got it from a guy on here, duncan? or one of his mates anyhow. Seems weird that the 1.6 and 2.0 both are run crap. The carb seems to open up fully and it makes a hell of a sound from the exhaust so its sound like it reving up like it should. We did timing and it seemed fine unfortunatly. Got it off an automatic so it had a steper motor on but no ecu so modified it a bit so it would run when cold, just idles fast when warmed up. Seems to be getting fuel ok as does not stall etc.. but is the only common thing left that would effect both engines. How i wish life was simple, but then it would be no challange!
  17. I know, althought the 1.6 pinto i had did these times just before i changed it 0-30= 5.2 0-60= 14.6 0-70= 21.6 those times would not even beat most 1LT at the traffic lights, i just have to look as though i am just out for a sunday drive!! :gdit: I put this down to a knackered engine as it would always try to die after 20mis of driving.... but it looks as though i may have the heaviest 2B in the country...but heavier than a sierra..must be all that weld trying to get it to fit togehter :boohoo: Does anybody know an average weight for a standard 2B??, i may try and pop down a local weigh bridge tommorrow. Anyhow.. any ideas why my car is sooooooooo slow? is that the standars ratio for diffs from sierras?
  18. thanks rizla The diff ratios were not changed from the donor car which was a 2LT DOHC sierra 4*4 if i remember correctly. Any advice??
  19. Hi guys, have just changed from a 1.6 pinto to a 2LT one, seemed a quick option as the 2.9 V6 cosworth looked a bit of a squeeze so thats next years project. But what 0-60 times would you expect from a standard 2LT Pinto?? On first run out, when it was not running too good so times may have come down about a second in did 0-30= 4.2 0-60= 10.7 0-70= 14.7 Now this is not really the performance i would have expected so looking to see how this compares? Any cheap ways to decrease these times, apart from getting a push or losing some weight?
  20. Thanks for the pics guys, still thinking about padded leather but has anyone got any tips on how to make a proper job of it?? Did think about the carbon fibre look but this is quite expensive and think leather is a better option, if done right!! Also does anyone know a place that sells aluminium style, preferably brushed or plain that is a thin, lightweight adhesive sheet. I am thinking of puttin it on the inside of the side pannels. Thanks
  21. Hi again, hope everyone is well, I am looking to redo the interior of my 2B and was looking for some suggestions or if anyone has some good links to other cars that have impressed them. I was thinking of aluminum sides and floor with a padded black leather tunnel and dash? Looked nice in my head but think the padding and leather may be hard to do properly. So was thinking maybe a carbon fibre style dash? Any insperation welcome. Thanks Simon

    2l Pinto

Thanks Peter but was hoping to get one that was complete and ready to drop in. thanks for the offer though. DGAV - sounds good, what condition are they in? where are you based? Firstbuild - sounds good also but a bit far, thanks for the offer though.
  23. just the rod ends as i dont know how big they need to be, i know small ones can talk a hell of a lot of force but dont want to do it all and find they are not up to the job.
  24. Thants ok as i got some new hubs, well from a scrap yard so all should be ok i hope? Has anyone any idea what sort of force is but on the suspension?
  25. hi, i found that a mk 3 cavalier ball joint seems to be a good match for the conversion as it has the correct tapper and has the three bolt fixing which is ideal. I then have sierra hubs, so just some tube and the rod ends left
