  1. Also worth adding that unlike most of the 2Bs, which used a donor car for the build, all the parts on the Superspec, with the exception of a reconditioned rear axle, were brand new (unless previous owner has modified them).

  2. OK thanks again, is that Rover engine any good ????????/

Sorry to be a pain but need to know before I commit my money.

Engine and gearbox are fine, but not necessarily together :) . Superspecs are known for a 'rattle' in neutral because they were not mated together correctly. You should be able to hear it on startup.

I love my Superspec, check out my blog (in the signature line)

  3. Nigel, Steve & Joe. Added to the list thanks.

Steve: I thought we all had sump guards :) 100 kits ? So far I have found 14, so some way to go. I know Richard Stewart still has one unbuilt one in his lockup. I'm hoping someone has a part-built one somewhere that they want to clear out for the room, so I can buy a cheap 'donor' car for spare parts. And not sure about chassis number, the previous owner told me he made it up, although that also has a load of 7s, so maybe you are right.

  4. Having adjusted the front shockers (Zimmers) to improve the sump clearance I thought it might be an idea to wind up the rear shocks a bit to level the car and stop the exhaust mounting from grounding.

Problem was that when I tried to turn the adjusting nut and locknut all that happened was the shocker rotated.

Am I missing something simple or am I going to have to take them off? or fabricate some way of gripping the lower threaded part without damaging it ?

  5. I don't want to start a 'club within a club', but I thought it might be useful if we kept a database of Superspec owners. That way we know who to go for for Superspec advice, who lives relatively close, who has what engine, and who is going to what car show so we can meet up and discuss Superspec-specific issues.

From trawling the forum, I have come up with the following current active owners:

    alanrichey (Al) - Swayfield, Lincs - (Rover 2.0 + MT75 Gearbox)

    QuadraDave (Dave) - ??? - ???

    Al Milton (Al) - Ramsgate,Kent - (Zetec)

    maw (Matthew) - Leicester- ???

    edbond (Ed) - Worcester - (Rover 2.0 + MT75 Gearbox)

    Redspec (Steve) - Co Durham - (Rover 2.0 + MT75 Gearbox)

    steven (Steven) - N. Ireland- ???

    jwts (John) - Herne- ???

Pete the Dog (Peter) - Welshpool - ???

owlman (Jonathan) - Warlingham, Surrey - (Zetec)

    Crazy chris3rd (Chris) - Merthyr Tydfil - 2.3 Galaxy + MT75

    Have I missed anyone ?

Anyone not want to be included in a more detailed private one (full addresses) ?

Can we fill in the gaps ?

Anything else we need to know that is relevant ?

    Cheers

  6. Yes I had a look through the tunnel top with all the covers removed to see if I could see it but chickened out when it wasn't obvious and it looked like I may have to actually dismantle the gear change mechanism to get a better access. Have to decide which method is easier.

While I was rotating the prop shaft I was a bit surprised to see the flange between the CV joint and the gearbox only had 3 bolts in although there appear to be 6 holes ? The previous owner said it was like that when he picked it up from GBS so assumed ti was correct ?

  7. Bingo. It was the magic word 'vice' that solved it. Once gripped the whole mechanism slid nicely to the front. Many thanks to both.

Now all I need to do is figure out how to access the greae nipple at the front end of my propshaft.

  8. I don't think so. The supplier definitely said you fill through the bottom. Not had any further reply from the seller. And I thought this was going to be a dumb question with an easy answer.......... :)

  9. A long time since I filled one of those , the nozzle acts as pump, pull it out and the bit you are showung will go up the bore ,fill with grease ,pallet knife is handy screw cap back on and away you go mowerman

Afraid the nozzle is already at full extension, it will only go in not out.
  10. I think this comes under the heading of "the only stupid question is the one you don't ask", so here goes.

I just bought a cheap grease gun of Fleabay

    gun.jpg

And I can't see how to refill it. The seller has no idea, and told me his supplier said to just unscrew the base and fill it. But when I unscrew the base I see this:

    gun2.jpg

Am I supposed to remove/unscrew the metal bit ? I don't want to risk it if I am going to break something. Or do I try and force the grease in the middle past the spring ?

  11. Could also pop over if you need help, but I think you will find it pretty straightforward. You won't need to go into the footwell though, it's all accessible from the pedal box. Just make sure you use some cable ties to keep the cable away from the exhaust manifold.

  12. Hi everyone

My apologies that this has nothing to do with kit cars, but it is something I am now passionate about and I firmly believe is very relevant to many of you on this forum.

Some of you will already know that just before Christmas I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. I had an operation just after Christmas and thankfully it was caught in time and I have just been given the all-clear. But the important thing is that I never had any symptoms and found out almost by accident. If I hadn't been proactive I could have been drinking and eating with many of you at yesterday’s meet not realising I had a terminal illness.

So I now have a mission in life to try and stop anyone falling into the same trap that almost caught me.

I have written a personal guide to Prostate Cancer as I understand it, hopefully more from an 'engineering' practical viewpoint than a medical one, and a detailed description of all my experiences throughout the last few months. If you are a man over 50 (fair few of those on here I think :)), or you know a man over 50, please do me a big favour and read this article and if you think it is appropriate, give it as wide a distribution as you can.

Sorry if you think this is inappropriate for the forum, but if I can save just one person I'll gladly take the heat. :)

    Thanks

  13. Thanks to everyone who turned up and made it such a success, Ruth and I enjoyed meeting you all.

We finished up with 30 attendees (I think), including 10 wives, and even though quite a few of you still have your cars SORNd we still filled the car park with 8 Hoods, a Zero and 2 Sprites (did I miss any ?). The staff were very impressed.

I would take credit for the weather, but ............... :)

  14. Sorry you couldn't make it to the meet, we had a good turnout. Re Clutch cable, here are few pointers. I went through all this with my Superspec last year as they all suffer from regular clutch cable breakages. All described at http://www.rhocar.or...tch cable&st=0

'Steven' pointed me in the right direction with "...What you need is a QH ( QCC 1303 ) cable off a Fiat Ducato 81-86..." He was absolutely right and I got it off E-Bay. There is one going there now for £14.60. Item 261413775660 (Although this is for the standard Superspec with the Rover engine and Ford MT75 gearbox)

I also followed the advice at http://www.rhocar.or...=1 and redesigned the pedal end to avoid the same thing happening again. I describe how I did it on my blog at http://the-superspec...utch-cable.html

    Hope that helps you out..
