  1. Cracking day again, beautiful weather and a lovely drive there.   As expected, being half-term it was quite busy, but we all managed to park together.   And met up with a new member from Lincolnshire.  Probably have to have another one in June 😀

  2. As some of may know I have taken over from richyb66 as the new Membership Secretary.  I have always thought this was a good idea to post the new member details, in my case, as an Area Secretary, to see if anyone has joined from Lincolnshire.  So I intened to keep it going.   As a reminder, the second column is their forum username so if you wish to contact them then use the forum Message system to send a private message.

So welcome to the following new members who joined in May:

    Simon P         Simon Parish             Bolsover
    Robin S          Robs931                     Tewksbury
    Ivan H             Ug1y                              Hull
    Simon K-D    Simon1966                 Doncaster

  3. A new month, so time to get out again.  We are starting early, so are having our regular picnic on Thursday 2nd at 12:00.  As it is half-term, everywhere will be busy so we are playing safe and going to Burghley House in Stamford (PE9 3JY) which has plenty of free parking.   We normally park up in the field shown in the picture.   See you all there 😀

  4. The Superspec uses an Escort rack and is also bolted directly to a cross member.  In fact I can’t think why you would fit rubber mountings.  Surely the last thing you want in a steering system is movement or flexing, it should be rock solid, when attached to the chassis.  Or have I misunderstood what you mean ?

  5. That would be me 😀    I started off just bunging it up with a tea towel, but eventually graduated to rubber bung off EBay (Item 272283417049) (see below).   But it was mainly to pass the emissions test, I don't think it affects the noise level.

For some reason I missed you when I was collating Superspec owners (Up to 40 now).   I'll PM you with the details.

  6. And what a cracking day out it was.   Very quiet car park, good turnout, good company and a very pleasant walk down the Foxton staircase and a visit to the Museum, including a good look at the historical lift system that was used before the locks were build.   Enough left to visualise how the boats were floated into a box and then lowered/raised on the slope to the lower/upper parts of the canal.

  7. We've decided to revisit Foxton Locks (LE16 7RA).   Nice place for a picnic, it is the longest, steepest staircase of canal locks in Britain.   Two car parks, museum, cafe, pubs, toilets and a very interesting inclined boat lift which preceded the locks.

We will be parking up in the top (southerly) car park by about 12:00.   Parking costs £3.50 and unless it has changed since last time, it will not take credit cards, so it's either cash or a phone call.

Still planning for Wednesday 18th, but if the weather on the 17th looks dramatically better we might go then.   Final decision on Monday 16th.

  8. Now Stoneleigh is done and dusted (rather annoyingly, having avoided it for 2 years, I picked up Covid there at some point, luckily a very mild case) it's time for the next Lincolnshire 'picnic'.

It will be at 12:00 next Wednesday 18th May.   Location yet to be decided, it will depend on participants, I like to give everyone a decent run in the car as well as meeting up somewhere nice.

    All welcome.

  9. Definitely not a Superspec.  The Superspec has a tubed stainless steel chassis like all the 2B models.   Yours sounds like it has a monocoque chassis which was used in earlier models like the S3A, S7, Exmo…

and I agree you probably need to adjust the cable to bring the bite point up.  I assume at the moment the bite point is right at the bottom of the clutch pedal travel so that when you push the pedal to the floor it isn’t fully releasing the clutch.  Use the 2 nuts shown in your picture to tighten the cable a bit and reduce the slack in the cable.

  10. The organisers have just sent out the invitations for this years show.    This show is a bit unusual as it is limited to 500 cars and they automatically invite everyone who went last year.    That means any new owners have to hope people have turned down the invitation.    The register process has just opened so I would recommend anyone who wants to attend and hasn't received an invitation to get in early.    There is an optional runout for anyone who fancies it but that is very limited in numbers so you need to get in really early.

There is no cost for entering, but it is for charity so they recommend a £5 donation which they collect at the entrance.

As in previous years we have been allocated a Club area so make sure that when you register that you specifiy you are a member of the Robin Hood Club.

    Any other questions just ask.

  11. Although we have a busy 3 weeks coming up with the Stilton Cheese Run and Stoneleigh there is still time for one more meet.   Weather looking good early next week so we are going to visit the Cranwell Aviation Heritage Museum near Sleaford (NG34 8QR) on Monday at 12:00pm.    All welcome.

  12. Bit confused here, are we talking about chassis numbers or VIN numbers ?   I'm not aware of a 'chassis' number.   VIN numbers are the ones that have to be stamped into the chassis. and are then displayed on the V5.  I think my VIN number was made up by the builder (in 2008) although he took advice from Robin Hood Engineering. It starts with SSP (SuperSPec ?)  then a few numbers a string of 7s and ends in 18.   Maybe the 18 means something ?

However, your screenshot of the portal screen has a scroll bar on the right, which suggests you can scroll down further - the member map option is next under 'Leaderboard'.

How embarrasing, missed that 😀.  Many thanks.

  14. How odd.  Must be a setting somewhere.  I wonder which one.

Later:  Just noticed I get the same limited blue bar on my iPad as well, on Safari, Edge & Firefox  (I collect browsers😀).  Maybe it's a setting on my profile rather than on the PC.

Have to wait for an expert to comment.

  15. Thanks.   Yes I see it's there in Edge & Safari.    I use Firefox and it looks like that top line is obscured.  Obviously something wrong in the rendering.

And if I use the 3 bar option I get

    23688149_Image2jpg.thumb.jpg.e4e2f7cce69cfaf6c9b4e0647cbafd18.jpg

and selecting Portal just gives me

    Imag3..jpg.4c6b11bf22f642951fa720aa874607dd.jpg

    No sign of Member Map.

So until Firefox is fixed I will just have to use another browser.
