  1. Thanks guys, yup will definitely use 8.8 and a nylok, had read about the pin also will consider it. It's great I'm learning so much and enjoying it too! :-
  2. As per title doing my homework on my front suspension, what the hell is a pinch bolt and how is it different to a normal bolt? Apologies if that's a daft question but I can't find out anywhere. Don't want to make a daft (and potentially dangerous!) Mistake tomorrow. Thanks!
  3. That's such a good idea, hadn't thought of that - nice and simple thanks, tipex sounds good. Cheers
  4. Thanks, I like the idea of that I'm just finding it difficult to mark both without getting paint everywhere and it looking s right mess. It might just be my delicate hands if it's not required I would prefer not to, unless it's somewhere necessary
  5. Evening, hopefully a quick and easy one I'll be torqing up some of my suspension tomorrow and the bolt paint I have is good, but it's hard to get a mark on the chassis as well to show that the bolt hasn't moved. Is that actually required or do I simply need to mark the bolt to say I've checked it and it's correct?
  6. Lesson learned, RTFM lol. If I had read further on....the Haynes clearly states that Blue is right handed thread and Yellow is left handed! Feel daft now, ahwell might help someone one day
  7. Thanks Andy, I've just checked again and one is *blue* and one is yellow, fingers crossed someone will know
  8. Evening everyone, hopefully a simple one! I have a pair of front hubs which I am attempting to refurb but I can't work out the thread direction to get the nut off. The Haynes manual says there should be an R stamped on to identify the right hand hub, but there isn't one. The nuts however each have a different colour band on them (I think they are called lock bands). Does anyone know? One is green and one yellow. Thanks!
  9. Or even what year Astra I can use when selecting the part? Thanks!
  10. Whiz, do you have the part number at all? Or a link to a similar part on say Euro parts? I'll need to purchase a pair soon.
  11. Hello, Before I jump in with a Stanley blade, what's the best way to remove excess panel glue on the chassis? I have some overspill on it from attaching both side panels and want to clean it off, the chassis is powder coated and I'm concerned I will scratch it. Sounds daft but I don't want to find a trick/easy way to remove it after spending hours first time round. Thanks! Danny
  12. Not sure, its OK ill ring GBS on Monday - ill just tell them I want the inner panels from the rear back panel all the way to the front, for both sides. They should be able to supply them, hopefully I dont sound too daft on the phone and they get what I am talking about
  13. Ahhhhh OK, thanks for that - glad I am not going mad! I would prefer to buy them direct from GBS, I am sure they wont be too expensive! I dont suppose you know if there are any other "extras" required? From what I can see these cresents go from the rear to what looks like in line with steering wheel, where the frame starts to move in. It looks like theres probably another panel required from there right to the front is that correct?
  14. I appear to be missing all the "inner" pannels from what I can see, looking at other builds. On my kit checklist I only have "Left main side panel" and "Right main side panels" that look related, ill give GBS a ring Monday I think - worried because my kit is over a year old now and I've only just spotted it.
  15. As above really, I am working out what to do next on my build and I have seen reference to crescents on a few build blogs (Richards for example here: http://richards-gbs-zero.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/passenger-side-panels-crescents.html). I dont appear to have these in my starter kit though? I cant see them mentioned on the GBS site either, are these an optional extra? I've checked my receipt from GBS and they arent listed on their checklist either which makes me think I havent missed them, they just arent included in the starter kit. Is that right? I'm confused, easily done
  16. I don't know the dimensions, but the size is 1lt (found that on here and a couple of build blogs) and I got mine from eBay, much cheaper as you say My alu sheet came this morning, under a tenner delivered for 500mm square - that's me set for the weekend!
  17. Cheers Richard, it does make sense to use ebay, I've looked and can pay extra to get it here for the weekend. BTW - loving the blog, I've been reading it obsessively! Very good for inspiration.
  18. Or, could I use two sheets of 0.5mm aluminium? It's only a small bracket holding the swirl pot, but I don't want it to be wrong!
  19. Hello, I don't like the look of the GBS supplied bracket I have. I am sure it's fine for the swirl pot they supply, but for mine it's just too small. I attached my swirl pot to chassis + bracket, only three of the four holes in the pot are attached and the whole thing doesn't look neat. It's secure, but looking at other pictures making a bracket will be a far better solution. I've been to BNQ today and I can only get 0.5mm aluminium which seems too flimsy to me, however, they do sell stainless steel in small 1mm lengths. Will this be an OK material to use or should I just go buy some 1mm aluminium sheet from eBay? I dont have time this week to search around and I would like to make a bracket this weekend so it's eBay and hoping it's delivered in time, or bnq Stainless? Stainless certainly seems strong enough but I worry it's perhaps too strong for me to cut or it's properties aren't for for purpose? Any opinions? Thanks!

    Fuel System

I too am looking at my fuel system, you mention a filter for a fiver for each pump. Does that include the high pressure pump? Kitspares has a low pressure filter for that price but the high pressure ones seem much more expensive, both from GBS and eBay. I am guessing they are more expensive for a reason, but not sure if they are overkill or not?
  21. Thought I would post a final update, I fitted my Calipers from Rally Design over the weekend and finished the Discs and Pads last night, all fits perfectly fine with the Kitspares brackets and 253mm Discs, very happy with the end result.
  22. I think I will be fine. I already have the brackets from GBS (http://www.kitspares.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=43_9&product_id=63&car=43). Those plus the new calipers I have now purchased, should be all I need. I've looked at pictures from a few build guides and read through and that seems to match. Soon find out though
  23. yup, thats the bit I am on about.
