  1. Don't necessarily follow what I did but, clean the bearing off the crank to check the true extent of the damage as a small scratch is nothing major. I took a chance with mine and just fitted new big end bearings without checking main bearings as didn't want to take the engine out. Applied loads of engine assembly grease to the new bearing shells and bit the bullet and put it all back together. Fitted a new oil filter and oil ran for 30 mins until hot, let it sit for an hour then dropped the oil and new filter and oil again to try and flush the metal out the oil gallery's and it's been ok ever since

  2. I hate to say it but I said about the bearings when you first posted about the problem, when doing this amount of work it is best to check things properly it will save you alot of time in the future trust me I know, been there and done that.

Because the explosion that happens in the cylinder forces the piston back down with more pressure than it just being pulled down. You are taking such small tolerances which is why you can't feel it when moving by hand.

If one has failed they all will have. You can buy a set for around £30-40 make sure you use engine assembly grease when fitting new ones.

Loads of things can cause this issue, dirt in the oil, oil starvation possibly caused by your pickup being to close to the sump. Wrong oil. Also when you get a new engine you are suppose to run it in with special oil if not done correctly damaged could have been caused

  3. Yes sump off and undo the cap bolts from the rod and it will just come off, there are two Half's to the shell one will be in the cap the other on the rod they just pull off

  4. That video would be a very extreme case which would more than likely need a new crank and pistons not just bearings. mine did not move at all other than sliding on the crank which there suppose to do but the shells were complete scrap

Mine would only make a noise on slight throttle then disappear with abit more throttle sounded perfectly fine on tick over but when under load it was much worse.

  5. Ok as I have had all of the above as problems with my current engine, I will say it's still big end bearings! A wiggle by hand is not how you check them they will move on the crank as they are designed to. Take off the caps and physically take a bearing out to look for scratches or bits missing.

When going turbo me and Chris noticed I had 2 bent valves and my car ran fine it would pop and bang on over run and at high revs it would feel like it had a misfire but other than that ran great.

  6. I've driven Matt's car and it scared me - no way you'd get me in it as a passenger unless he fitted a passenger brake pedal! ☺

Ye it's got abit of poke and only on low boost

Andi thats best story ive heard in a while, a passenger trip in a turbo zetec would probably scare most peopleb, +1 for the passenger brake pedal

This is the best thing that has ever happened to me while in the kit. Was just having a spirited little drive nothing to crazy The guy was loving it but turns out it must have been a little too much for him in the end he did leave saying he wish he could get one

  7. when you say you checked the big end did you take off the caps exposing the shells??

Just a note the zetec doesnt have cam chains its a belt so would not cause a metal rattle
