  1. I may look at a lower profile filler cap too. As that will allow me to raise the engine a good extra inch or so.
  2. Ah great, I will take a look at that! Thanks!
  3. That would be very helpful. Thanks!
  4. That may have to be an option. Will try the new springs and make a decision from there. Do you have any images of how you raised it?
  5. I have 45DCOE fitted, the limiting factor is my oil filler cap / breather. I belive the mounts are up about as much as I can get them but will certainly take a look at that as an option. I need to measure the current clearance, if I cant get it up much more with the new coils I will buy a Premier motorsports shortened Sump. This will give me an extra 20+mm I think. I'm hoping the new coils will help, when I got the car the coils were at full extension, now over the years they are as done up as I can get them and it's still sagging. So that points at coils degrading over the years I guess. Let's hope I can gain a bit here and there which end up giving me enough in the end.
  6. Thanks Nick for the quick and easy sale. Fitted already and MOT tomorrow!
  7. Sump is a RS2000 alloy one so standard depth. I had a shortened one but it was causing issues with hard cornering a while back so moved to the deeper alloy one. This is why I'm now trying to gain the extra few cm. It's OK day to day but in certain places the sump can just be heard to scrape. The storage place I have it at has a bit of a ramp into the facility and it just kisses as I roll over it, that's the main reason to be honest.
  8. Yes, got that. I'm working it out to sink by say an inch or so to allow for rebound and a decent ride. Hoping that's right. My coilover seem to be 9 inches at full 'out' setting so can wind them down about an 1.5inches if needed to stiffen up.
  9. Thanks DanDan. Will take that info and calculate it I to my workings. Appreciate the replies!
  10. I have the option of 120 or 140. So thinking 140. Just out of interest how much do you think the car sits down on the spring? EG, if you jack it up to full travel and then let the jack down how much does the spring squeeze? I need every mm I can get, haha
  11. Ok, having dug around, im going to just change the coils. I have measured the gap from base of adjustable thread to top of the shock and its just under 9 inches so will fit 9 inch coils. Now I just need to work out the poundage needed to allow the car to sit high but not ride hard.
  12. DanDan, Thanks for that. I have decided to just change the springs, Have found a decent source for them and just trying to work out the poundage. From the sound of it your 120Lb works well. I need the suspension to hold up as high as possible to gain as much clearance as I can so don't want the car sitting down onto the springs / compressing them when im not sat in the car. By chance, do you remember the length of yours? Im looking at 9 inch coils from the measurements I have just taken on my SPAX units.
  13. https://nw.rhocar.org/identification.htm That should help you identify what front end your using. Once you know this google aftermarket Coilovers for that make / model. There may or may not be off the shelf ones, if not, your right, its a weld and modify job ahead.
  14. My current adjustable SPAX Coilovers are now not giving me the ground clearance I need, The sump can be heard to scrape on certain roads which I want to avoid. I have adjusted the current one right up but being old they just don't jack the car up to where it used to sit, you can event see the track rods sitting low rather than level. Any way, this brings me to what do I replace them with. I don't have a fortune to spend but adjustable would still be nice to have. Main thing I need to know is the recommend length and poundage I guess. I did think about getting some spring assisters or maybe a 1'' stainless 'block' that I could fit between the top of the current coiler and spring to give it more tension, something like this.... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Transporter-T4-Rear-Suspension-Lift-Spacer-25mm-1-inch-Made-in-UK/122025495622 This company will make any size to suit so I can just measure what I need and get them cut for me... Any information of help is much appreciated!
  15. DanDan, What Coilovers did you go for and what was the cost? I am looking at replacing my adjustable front SPAX ones as they are now getting on a bit and are sagging even when stiffened right up. Thanks Joe
  16. Anyone got a decent condition adjustable Vernier? Ideally with degree markings and also Ideally in red colour? Can get a new one for £80 delivered but thought I may try here first. Thanks
  17. Just realised I posted this in for sale...... Oops my bad, Sorry!!

  19. Hey Guys, After the car being sat for a while over the chilly spell I got her out and fired her up. she was very lumpy to start up but got her going and all good. I took her for a drive down the road and she seemed a bit more spritely than usual, I say a bit, a lot.... I got home, parked up and tried to fire her up again, was missing and all sorts but did finally start up... Something not right on start up yet more spritely when driving along... Interesting I thought... Checked Timing and Cam belt. The belt had slipped a tooth from what I can make of it. New belt and tensioner later and she fires up smoothly but is back to her 'usual' power. Not sluggish but I now know there is more hiding somewhere.... My thought was that the valve timing would have been thrown out if they belt had slipped a tooth... Maybe this advance or retard of the valve timing had this affect? Would it be noticeable even if it was that? This has now lead me to think about getting an adjustable Vernier to try and dig up the extra power again... What do people think about this as an option? Am I mad? Barking? Or could I be on to something? Anyway, Thanks for reading and thank for any advice. Joe
