  1. hi Kenny, you will be ok with the sliding pillar my car is the same age as yours as i was too busy with other things for a while, so just get your head down and go for it. Mine has been on the road since Jan 2008 with no problems, just keep it well greased and it's ok. If I can be of any help just give me a shout.

    All the best. Cheers, George.

  2. My mate's just got a MIG welder second hand. It's a nice bit of kit, but it runs off the big bottles of CO2, not the throwaway disposable type. This seemed a good idea when he bought it as it should work out cheaper than using the disposable ones, but he can't find anywhere to fill up the bottle. It's the same type used by pubs for pressurising beer kegs, he's tried asking at a few local pubs, but they say their breweries deal with the bottles. Does anyone know of anywhere in Sheffield that can fill these bottles, or what type of place or shop would do?

Tim, I get mine filled by a local Fire Prevention firm for £20 if this helps. Cheers,

  3. :D :D :D

Passed SVA today at Beverley great guys there very helpfull, just got windscreen to fit and wipers so could be on the road by the end of the month once paperwork is sorted, got insurance with Adrian Flux £124 fully comp had this since November {unable to SVA due to illness } and they have never said to me to get my finger out to get a registration number, no problem.I have noticed on some cars that they have fitted rubber around the windscreen mounts is it P type rubber or U type fitted what is the best?.Anyway hope to get out for a run soon any callers welcome plenty of good Yorkshire beer. Thanks for all the help and advice given regards Telemetrix speedo, still did slight adjustment on the day.

Well done Colin, it's a good feeling. Like me you picked a great time to get an SVA, but at least all should be sorted for summer. Cheers

  4. Well done :D :D :D

I find a not so wee dram helps with the thawing out process ( and if it doesn't you don't care anyway )

Are there enough Scottish ones now to organise a wee run out?

You were right about the wee? dram, a new bottle of McCallen did the trick. That's 2 cars on the road this year in Dundee plus my pal Dave has a Hawk so we should manage a run sometime. Cheers

  5. Hi guys, just to let you know another sliding pillar finally made it on to the road at last. passed first time at Glasgow (phew) so thanks to everyone for all the hints and tips over the years. Roll on summer (it was minus 6 deg up here today).

  6. Remarkably the car went through first time at Glasgow this morning. ONly problem was a brake cable that broke during the test. I had brought a spare (could have built a second car from the stuff in my boot) and the tester let me fit it and continue. He was very fair and looking at overall build quality and safety rather than nit-picking.

He told me of a car last week that came withy a wooden floor held on with gaffer tape and painted silver. the driver claimed it was welded sheet steel!

Off to the pub for a well earned pint

    cheers

    Gary

Well done Gary, hope to be there soon with mine.

  7. Hi everyone

Firstly, thanks to all those who made our annual trip to Stoneleigh such a great laugh. Now perhaps I can ask you all a small favour?

Some of you are aware that I recently qualified as a midwife. Those of you who know this are probably also aware that so far, my colleagues and I have been offered only bank work by our Trust. In fact since qualifying 2 months ago, I have not yet worked as a midwife.

Now I don't think that this is right, and I hope that you all think so too. So, for that reason I am hoping you will all sign the e-petition calling for job guarantees for newly qualified midwives. Please go to:-

    http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/jobsformidwives

    and show your support.

Remember, it may be your wife, girlfriend, daughter, etc., who is in need of the support of a midwife!!

    Best wishes

    Carole J

    signed, good luck
  8. has anyone else had oil coming out of the breather pipe on the diff are you supposed to put anything on the end of the pipe or just leave it open

Dave, the pipe should be left open but make sure it ends above the axle housing as it originally went up into a hole in the crossmember, this should cure the problem. cheers, george

  9. HI,

I have a 1600 pinto that ran in my car all be it not that well.Put some fresh fuel in because it had been standing for a while, changed plugs ,leads, cap and arm now won't run and back fires through carb when you turn it over .I'm sure i put everthing back as it came off.

    Any ideas. :(

    Andy

Another thing to look out for if you have a Bosch dizzy is the position of the locating peg that fits in the slot in the dizzy body, there are 2 types of cap that look similar but the timing is about 20 odd degrees out. all the best George.
  10. Hi,

Notice when driving to the the SVA a knocking noise from the engine when under load. I think it may be the timimg - 1.6 with 32-36 DGAV. timing at 10 degress. Can anyone recommend a better setting??

    Cheers.....Andy

Andy, the setting for unleaded is 6 degrees for a 2V carb and 8 degrees for a VV. Hope this helps, good result by the way! george.

  11. I think Enforcer has got it about right but I think there is a "0" or "Q" at the end

Try rubbing it with chalk then wipe off excess, that,s the way we did it in the garage trade. All the best. George
