  1. Hi, I am going to Newark on Saturday to look if there are any 2Bs for sale. Your car looks good and would be nice to look around it if your there. I have left message on piston heads.

    Cheers, Kerry

    No sorry work this weekend

  2. Hi all

Sad news my knee gets no better so getting in/out of the car is now no joke

So it will have to go..

Passed SVA first time at Birmingham - September 2008 and is correctly registered on a 58 plate as brand new September 2008. This means the buyer would have over two years trouble free motoring in this fun sports car, before needing an MOT.

The car is currently taxed to September 2009 so buyer can drive the car away.

    Basic Spec

Engine :- 2 litre Rover 'T' series (new)

    Gearbox :- Ford MT75 5 speed (new)

Diff :- Sierra IRS unit (Fully reconditioned )

    Disc Brakes all round.

Have had it for sale on piston heads no interest ...

Anyone interested here .. Price negotiable around £6000

    Cheers

  3. Seen it twice at Birmingham the last two times it was on

It gets better and better although the Head for Richard Burton was I think best in the first attempt, the one last year was a bit strange, they say its been altered again.

Merchandise is expensive when I look at the fact I bought the original album set when it first came out and picked up a CD set a number of years ago from a £2.00 basket in Woolworths it just did not sell until the concert series started again.

    Well worth the money

    Enjoy ...

  4. i had a look a 2b advertised on pistoheads no expence spared it read. well this chap must have a different set of eyes to me . why when people advertise a car for sale they cant tell the truth .i suspose if it read a bit tatty needs a lttle tlc nobody would turn up but it would save a lot of wasted time.

Have you looked at my Superspec... on Piston Heads..

its all true no special glasses...

  5. Hi,

I'm just doing this job on my 04 SuperSpec.

10mm (internal), 12mm (outer) diameter heating pipe fits. I found about 5 inches of the stuff in my kit but since I bought it 2nd hand it might have been added by the previous owner.

I've invented my own solution involving 8mm microbore pipe and lots of adaptors. The piping is cheap but the adaptors to match the pipes at each end and get round a tight bend are ridiculously expensive (I hope someone from B&Q is reading this!). If it all works I plan to polish the pipes so it looks like something off a traction engine :D .

    Hope this helps,

    John (jwts).

You can buy the copper pipe in B&Q its gas feed

I bought this + then used standard copper water pipe as per others and the SVA man was very impressed in B'ham

  6. Well I'm sorry to rub salt in the wounds guys but I got there (albeit in a tin-top) and it was a great show with loads of 'hoods there.

I can sympathise with the 'conspiracy' of things going wrong before a show, been there done that.

Newark is only a month or so away................

    I missed it as well

    Phone call for work !!!!

    <_< <_<

  7. Hi Guys,

While my engine is out doing the turbo install i'm intending on finally making the speedo working. The current old cortina dial has the right cable for it but it won't fit into my type 9 due to the tight working space. Any ideas where i can get a cable with a right angle fitting or just a right angle fitting of the right type.

Any help pointing me in the right direction would be great.

    Many thanks

    Dan

    Speedy Cables Link

They had one and made me a cable to fit etc.

  8. You could try turning the ignition on, (don't start the engine) press the accelerator down fully 6 times in quick succession, the stepper motor gives a rattle, turn ignition off for 1 minute then start it, see if that helps

That will reset MEMS ECU but the actual no throttle position will be set by the current position of throttle butter fly, which may not be fully closed depends on the cable adjustment

  9. My SuperSpec has a Rover engine with an integral power steering pump (it acts as the drive to the water pump so you can't take it off). Right now I have a pipe fitted between the outlet and inlet so transmission oil just circulates to keep it lubricated.

Has anyone used this to fit power steering to the car? If so what rack did you use and what modifications were required?

    Regards,

    John (jwts).

I don't think I would like to drive mine with power sreering..

  10. Hi,

I have a Rover 2ltr T-series engine in my almost finished SuperSpec. it ticks over at 1500 when cold and 1050 when hot. I used to have one of these engines in a Rover and that ticked over at 850ish.

I believe the tickover is set by the ECU and there are no adjustments I can make? When the throttle is closed it there is some slack in the throttle cable so the throttle is not being held open by the cable.

Is a tickover of 1050 acceptable for an IVA test?

    John (jwts).

There is an adjustment.. The throttle position i.e the position held by the cable when the pedal is released.. is used as the basis for the auto zero recalibration on the Mems ECU's you have ... so if you have the cable just a fraction wrong the Mems relearns the idle position incorrectly when it backs the stepper on ignition off.

Mine now sits about 950 but the adsjustment I know is still marginal and intend to play again can't put my hand on the bit of paper I had with description of the cable setting.. although the feeler gauge position with the engine EAST WEST was easy to ger to whilst in the North South its very hard to see ..

    Regards

  11. Hi,

I’m cleaning my 2004 SuperSpec scuttle ready to stick the dash material on it and found this piece of stainless stuck to the inside top with packaging tape. Is this meant to be fixed permanently or was it some sort of temporary support when in transit from the factory?

    post-2794-1238415766_thumb.jpg

    Thanks for any info.

    John (jwts)

No idea don't remember any extra bits like that..

There was some taping to hold the shape on mine, once fitted you use the silicone skil supplied to lock the shape'ish

  12. John

Fit the screen unless time is against you, present a complete car, if not ...........

....................gromets I feel sure will be ok for the holes.

Cut some stainless to cover the slots and fix with pop rivits, rivits are perminant, if you decide to fit the screen in a while the rivits can be drilled out and your screen vents will be able to cover your perminent fixing, just smooth the edge of your plate with sika or, and I can't belive I an saying this, silicone :o

A car just passed at Beverley with tape over the holes and the slots but I, like you, feel that to be a risk not worth taking.

Percivire and press on it WILL come good in the end and be HOH SO WORTH IT trust me. :D :D

Agree fit the screen its not a lot of work..

I was told by John who did my sva that if he felt a screen would be fitted in the future he failed cars with short term hole fills in the scuttle

  13. Hi John, you should have one bent piece of tubing that contains all four brackets... you have to cut them yourself. I think (it was four years ago) that you need around 150mm from the end of the bend... but as the saying goes measure twice cut once. :) When fitted they look like the picture Chris has posted

    Will

    Agree with Will

You cut up the bent tube, then once you work out which bit is bit, drill through the tube and the struts fitted to the top joint on the hub.

The most difficult I seem to remember is how to get the wing onto the bracket once fitted the bends are not 100% and trying to correct this is hard.

I bedded the wing onto some body filler with cling film on top of it to stop grab on GRP. This allowed it to be set square'ish on the wheel etc.

Then used short 4mm bolts with screw covers from B&Q to attach to wing.

  14. Hi,

I've just taken the bubble wrap off my 2004 SuperSpec exhaust heat shield and instead of being rectangular and rolling up to a cylinder it tapers and rolls up to a cone shape. Not only does it look odd the front end (with the louvres) is too big to fit in the dome at the front.

Am I missing something here? Surely the front of the shield must fit in that dome as shown in the pretty 2004 brochure pictures?

    Regards,

    John (jwts).

It does look odd when fitted but it gets you through SVA /IVA Once rolled and clamped as shown in my photo its not too bad.

  15. I passed SVA yesterday. Next step, registration.

Misses went to DVLA Theale today to try and sort out the inspection and to hand in all relevant forms (which took 8 days to arrive in the first place).

Firstly, the chap who is in charge of inspections is not in on Fridays.

So misses spoke to someone else on teh counter. She was told there were 2 options:

    * Get home visit, but the chap is not there and this could take upto 6 WEEKS!!!

    * or arrange to take the car (by bloody trailer at a cost of around £100) to Newbury (35 miles away), also told this only happens on a Tuesday and has to be booked in advance through the DVLA and this could also take upto 6 weeks.

    WHAT A P#ss take.

At the cost of the trailer and van hire it looks like I will have to beg the chap on Monday (if he's in) to try and do a home visit.

    Not a happy chappy

By the way the misses had to have a ticket to be seen cos there was a massive queue and her number was 666!!!!! :diablo:

    Just hang in there..

B'ham last year had the inspector off sick..

Told would have to wait till back, stamped my feet and got an inspection in less than 2 weeks.

You are lucky if they are offering home visits most offices insist on the car by trailer I managed to get a very very nice man to take mine cost me a couple of bottles..

  16. Sorry John, can't help with them as not fitted to mine. Surprised about the plate for the pedal box as it doesn't take a lot of pressure to make the wheels lock let alone flex the bar.

    will

Mine passed without these as well

The handbrake is on the strongest part of the floor and if you can move the servo you will be doing well..

I did fit some extra support for the seat mounts after talking to VOSA

  17. i have looked at the sva draft and dont understand it

    it talks about poles etc.

can you confirm you only need to be able to see 10 meters back in line with the outside of the car.

is this for centre mirror aswell

The SVA centre has a area layed out as per diagram in the draft manual

They park the car on the centre line and you must be able to adjust the mirrors from the driver seat so they can see the marks on the poles this means directly over the wheel arches + the field of view which represents a car overtaking and undertaking.

I got away with only a mirror on the Off side the legal requirement + interior but this was an only just pass on the near side according to the tester

Once I drove the car on the road I found I did need the nearside one to get a good view of what was going on behind.

I could not get the westfield ones RHS on temp fit to give anything like the right field of view so bought carbon fibre look alikes from car builder solutions

Fitted into windscreen supports they ar very good and have the right field of view at that hieght.

  18. Hi Nick

PM your e-mail and i will see what I can do but it may take a few days before I can measure it (did not make a drawing when I fitted it)

    Steve

    I would also like details

will pm my email as well..

  19. Yes Purple and black is the Horn

Single Purple is an unswitched fused supply for the headlights etc. you use this to one side of the headlight switch

The main + dipped beam feeds the other side of the switch are White-blue and White-red if my memory serves me right.

Not sure what group you are identifying but

White is an ignition switched 12v supply

  20.
