Hi Chaps What's the best way to get scratches out of Stainless steel bodywork (and also the carbon effect nosecone on the 2b)? Thanks

BTW, does anyone know if you have to fit a catch and hinge to the Bonnet for SVA or can you just use Bonnet fasterners?

Well, I was fortunate that the "Gentleman" who attempted my Lego kit before I took it over forgot to put the tadpole rubber between the arch and body. Consequently, after drilling out the rivets (and finding the light wires were just twisted together) I took the whole arch and plonked it in a boiling hot bath with loads of washing up liquid. It certainly helped get the plastic and residude off but there was still a lot of staining which I used Brasso on. (not posh enough to own Silver Polish ) Anyway, all in all, it took me about 4 hours for the 1st arch and am doing the second one today so it should be a bit quicker now I know what I'm doing. Wish I had read this thread yesterday

He's definatly in the McLaren back yard. In fact, on the last photo, he's about 1 mile up the road from their old HQ. With the trade plate and the camo / disguise job, it's obviously not a Chav-U-like job. Odds are it's some sort of McLaren prototype but it's bloody short. If you take those false fins off the roof and back, it looks very much like a lotus?

I think Bill built mine. £100 and very good job (pick up just needed a touch of persuasion) I fitted mine at the weekend so I have the original 205 pinto sump if you still need one.

That rings a bell. I bought a Freelander new a few years ago (why, oh why, oh why) and it consumed some front pads at a rate of 25,000 miles. However, at 50k, they changed the disks as well. Now hang on a minute I said. I'm happy with 25k for the pads but 50k for the sodding disks is a bit rich? Well, the same happened at 100. I decided to keep the disks and there was only about 1.5mm of wear on them and these are quite thick disks. From now on, if you can bend them, they need changing

My question would be whether it's simpler to just get a better engine off eBay or to tune the existing one?

I think there are a few structural modifications needed to get the Lightweight through SVA. As I understand it, only 1 has so far passed but if your friend is good mechanically, these things could be overcome. I'm pretty new to all this so wouldn't even dream of starting a project like this although the Lightweight looks an excellent car. Bit of a case of suck-it and see.

I had forgotten about this thread until your post in another one referring to it. Please let me reply to your post to clear up any confusion. Bad feeling? The fact that my views do not tally with your experiences does not mean I have bad feeling against the police. Far from it. As people have said, they do a difficult job and cope with situations that I don't think I could deal with. I have a lot of respect for the force. For example, when we were discussing unlicensed, uninsured drivers and you mentioned the new powers the police have against the powers they had a few years ago, I actually did something about it. I DID take the time to make a FOI request and received the information that in the first trial (1st of August to 31st August, 2006) 158 cars were seized with only 50% being reclaimed. I also took the time to reply to the County force confirming that I had noticed far fewer boy racers of late and complimenting them on a great job. That is not to say that I cannot express an opinion that is not positive. The current attitude and policy surrounding speeding is not adequate IMHO. I know that coppers on the street are not responsible for dictating policy but they are responsible for enforcing it. If there is sour grapes then it is because I regularly see police cars driving above the limits when they are not on a shout. Now, I drive above the limit when it's safe to do so but I run the risk of getting nicked. Then again, I'm not employed by the country to enforce these rules whereas a Police Officer is. As for my attack on the integrity of the modern police force. That's a bit strong mate, isn't it? All I was saying was that these things go on. You are claiming that I in some way am attacking the integrity of the force which means you disagree that it happens. Difference of opinion, that's all. Please don't take it personally but accept it in the manner it was intended. As an opinion, offered on a discussion forum that I have developed by observing, reading and experiencing something that differs from your experience. I fully accept that nothing like this ever happens in Telford You seem determined to make me out as some sort of police hater which I am not. I value your opinions and have learnt that your posts are informative and worth reading. I would be disappointed if you hold a few comments I have made to be in any way a personal attack on you, which they obviously were not. ps. What are The Shield and Life on Mars?

Firstly, the officer has made a mistake and it's correct he paid for it. This is not always the case though Second, the Taxi driver should have had his car impounded regardless of blame. With the new powers the police have, hopefully unlicensed menaces like this can be taken off the road. I have to say though that not knowing much about this case, it's hard to comment on. In my experience, sometimes drivers make mistakes. Most people have very little training to use their cars on the road and accidents happen. Sometimes there is careless driving and sometimes it's literally just an accident. There must have been sufficient evidence in this case for a prosecution and that's what happened this time Going back to the case in hand, the driver made a mistake and somebody died. If he had not of made the mistake, the man would in all probability been alive. However, was it due to careless or dangerous driving? The facts here are: Responsibility for this accident and subsequent death must rest largely with the bike rider and I find it difficult to punish the driver in this situation unless there was sufficient evidence to suggest he was driving at a level far below what would normally be expected. In today's culture, we always need someone to blame whereas sometimes, accidents just happen.

I use a Titanium one on my Fazer 1000 which is not as bad as some. May try the stainless one on the 2b as it's a nice looking can to see what it sounds like and ket you know.

So, a senior member of the Force who has championed tackling speeding can instruct his driver to break the law and get away scot free? If we have discussed a matter before, who is to say it cannot be raised again in relation to a related thread? I think it would also be naive to claim there isn't a "one law for them, one for us" attitude. On occasions, police officers will get prosecuted but this is far from the norm. The stigma attached to a police officer that nicks one of his colleagues would be intense. Face it Enforcer, would you nick a person you work with on a daily basis if you caught them doing 40 in a 30? I appreciate that you cannot answer in the negative as this would constitute a breach of your employment obligations. However, how many police officer in your force have received points in the last year for speeding? I'm not against the police and certainly not against you personally. However, we all know there are some perks to the job

This morning, Postman Pat brought me a little surprise. Can I just sat that the Sump looks wonderful. The welding is top class and beautiful. It's all been painted and finished nicely. £100 is also cheap when you consider that £90 of that is spent on tissue and wrapping tape used in the packaging : I'm not going to need a roll of Andrex for months Cheers Bill.

Is that a Standard one or an after Market one and is also the round type, not the horrible triangular thing they have brought out. I have a brand new R1 BS stamped one that is road legal. It will still have a nice noise but might not attract unwanted attention Let me know if you're interested.

Well, "Take what's coming" rather depends if you're a normal bloke caught a couple of miles over the limit or a Police officer abusing his authority: http://www.snoopers.co.uk/news_86mph_polic...ten_warning.asp or you fancy finding out what your motor can do and blat it down the motorway at 159mph http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/shropshire/5284962.stm It seems that taking whats coming only applies to those not currently serving in the Police

Well, she's either got small love jugs or big hands. Can't figure out which

Quick suggestion. If you can't get hold of R1 carbs, try Fazer 1000 ones. I think they're identical.

What a moaning, cynical, mean minded bunch of grumpy old gits you lot are. It's not surprising I fitted in here so well I have been guilty of just throwing the junk mail away and apologise profusely. My mission from now on is to create ever more ingenious ways to hamper the senders. I need to know that if you have a reply paid letter from a company with a beautiful first class frank on it, can I readdress it to a different address? I'll never have to buy a stamp again. Second, if it has a first class frank and the package weighs slightly more than a first class letter, will they still get charged? I have a couple of tons of rubble that I need to shift so I thought I could get rid of it, one brick at a time. Advice please!!

One or two Mental Note: Remember not to do a Boat Race with a couple of broken ribs. Drinking the Beer wasn't too bad but a severe case of the hiccups afterwards was pure agony Happy days

Well, that just leaves the ball tampering sport of Croquet : (why do I get the feeling my sumps going to fall to pieces )
