  1. From Mr. Ford! I think they were about £60 but being a cheapskate I would clean out the old one first with carb cleaner or something, make sure the operating spindle doesn't stick. I have an old one from a DOHC in my garage but I am not sure if it is the same as the pinto.

  2. Andy I don't know if you were really expecting a reply but I think the 1.6 and 1.3 Pintos used the 66mm stroke (hence the slightly lower engine) and the 2l the 92?mm stroke. I suspect the Emax had the longer stroke and hence smaller bore to try to get a bit more economy and possibly higher torque but lower power. I think the car also ran a higher ratio diff. probably all to do with getting a better constant 50mph fuel consumption figure or something.

  3. My other half has a Palm tungsten palm thingy, I have bought some extra memory for it so she can listen to MP3s. It looks as it needs a player program loading and as it can't take up much memory does anyone have any suggestions as to what to use?

    Thanks Peter

  4. I get quite a few, some even claiming to come from my bank. Don't answer just delete. You can forward the link onto the real bank, some banks are supposed to be trying to track them down.

  5. Nigel if you think it is not a fuel problem is the ignition unit a black plastic thing mounted on an aluminium plate? If so check the connections and it may be worth possibly seeing if you can get one from a scrappy, a work friend had missing and stalling problems on an N? reg. Astra it turned out to be that. The Vauxhall dealer couldn't find it.

  6. Richard, assuming you have the inboard shockers on your 3 the red springs were 180lbs /in. the black ones were 130lbs/in. But as all things Hoody I bought some 130lb ones from locost which were red! as apparently they had changed the supplier so colour alone is not always an indicator. Some springs I have seen have the poundage marked on the flat ground end so if you remove the spring from the spax units all may be revealed, but not necessarily!

  7. Mike just a word of caution, I tried fitting a carbon bike can, 5" dia 17" long with a 2" straight through perforated tube. I repacked it first, it sounded great but 106db! my old standard RH is 97db. I was glad I hadn't chopped the old one up to fit the can, I think fitting a baffle or 2 would help to ecourage some of the gasses through the wadding.

  8. Sorry to nag you about this Rusty but 100R6 is the pressure rating of the hose, it is a single fabric braid. The only way it will be compatible with brake fliud and power steering fluid is if it is made from nylon or ptfe. It will be ok for the power steering fluid but not for Dot 4 brake fluid. I won't slag off Pirtek they are great for getting farmers, builders etc. going again but they are a franchise and branches will vary. Ask to look at their fluid compatibility chart and if they can't prove they are right get your money back, the last thing you need are no brakes.

I have been involved in these industries for 20+ years and have seen quite a few scary things.

  9. Rusty, please be careful! you have said you have used Pirtek hoses. The only rubber material you can use with brake fluid is EPDM. The Pirtek hoses presumably will be nitrile (I think they use Manuli hose) as they will be for mineral oil based hydraulic fluid. Normal brake fluid will cause it to swell, go soft, and FAIL! check with your supplier and change them if there is any doubt.

    Peter.
