Is it just me? I couldn't get into this site for a few days (Site not found message) I thought it had gone down but when I tried from work it was fine. Eventually got back into it from home and now can't get on it from work! Have I been banned?
Peter
Just thought if people can't get onto the site they will not be able to say they can't. If you understand that!

I tried using a meter just like that one a short time ago, it had been calibrated less than a year previously. Results were 3k 91, 3.5k 93, 4k 96, and 4,5k 98 dba. this is with standard original S1 exhaust system, 4into 2 into 1 manifold and shiney tin box. Pinto with 285 cam. I think that the results were very kind to my car. So don't be too suprised if the official readings are worse than your unofficial ones.

Trouble with that is as soon as the fuel level in the carb drops with evaporation the valve opens anyway. I wonder if the problem lies in the cheap one way valves fitted in the cheap fuel pumps we use?

Take the pump off, don't just put a hose loop for the fluid, as when it pumps the small amount of fluid will get hotter and hotter eventually probably boiling and seizing the pump.

Check the cable hasn't partially siezed, the brakes may be ok. especially if the braking was fine on the foot brake.

Phil, edge finisher, most people seem to use the mini plastic chrome or black finisher, before you fit it on squirt some silicone adhesive in it and wipe clean when fitted. It stays on then so doesn't get damaged, dont know about the catches though.

Blue Hylomar seems pretty fuel resistant.

Bryan, I am convinced it is the same as the standard 2l head. If you want to change from the std. use an injection one, it flows better and has hardened valve seats!

Hi Alan, Charity shops are a good source of Haynes manuals for older cars, you could look in a few. Trouble is if you are like me you come out with a few records etc.

Mike, I think someone on the NW site fitted a K series, perhaps Jim can advise?

Jez, you may find this link of interest from the old website for the rear suspension http://hometown.aol.com/dvandrews/rear.htm

Lindsey I think if you do a search on the site you will find a few answers. The old sealed beam units had a clear patch and you use a sidelight holder unit from a mini so the bulb shines through from the rear. I think some people glued the bulbs in place some how too.

As Jim says a picture is necessary as there are many different types. If your front suspension looks like the one below with an angle iron frame supporting the top wishbones it is a Mk1 S7. If it has a cortina front subframe it is a cortina based one but some of those have a proper wishbone set up as well.
Where abouts do you live in no information?

You could come and join us at John and Helen Tweens meeting in Baldock on the 7th march if you fancy a ride out. There is usually a good turn out of Hoods (with hoodz) plus a few others.

Even more congratulations for your other half who built it!! Is it a boy or girl you seemed to miss that bit out? And shouldn't it be in yellow overalls?

The leaks are also in proportion to speed and lack of visibility. The only good thing about having a hood on is that the noise of the gearbox and axle help to drown out the noise of the exhaust!

Hello Zip, I may be wrong here but I believe that just about the only interchangeable bit from the 2.3l US Pinto and the Euro one, is the name. And the 2.3 Diesel fitted in the Sierra was a Peugeot. Ford just made the 1.8 diesel and I think a 2.5 for the Transit neither of which had anything to do with the Pinto.
Peter
-
Don't forget the Transit! my bottom hose 'assembly' uses one, they are longer than the car versions!

It sounds more as though the position of the mounts is wrong, the mounting arms should just drop straight on to them. There should be no lateral strain on the mounts.
Peter
Where abouts are you btw? If you fill in the details in your profile I expect someone would pop around to drink your tea and advise you!

I doubt if the switch to unleaded has caused a sudden big change in temperature, it may cause it to pink a little if you labour the engine, is this happening? As Ian suggests the answer may be more of a problem in the cooling system. Check the thermostat as well.

I had same problem with a Ford, contacted the original dealer who gave it to me over the phone, no charge. Do you have any idea who the original dealer was? You could try the Vauxhall service centre at Luton (if it still exists) they may be able to help.

Hey there's nothing wrong with old mowers! I had a kick start Atco two stroke that smoked quite a lot which the kids called the Gruffle. There is a museum in cornwall somewhere full of old mowers. (no I wasn't allowed to go)
