  1. Barry, I've bled front then back as described in the Haynes manual. 2B, I've thought about bulging hoses so will have to get the wife involved again. I work shifts including weekends so getting a second opinion or a house call isn't easy. The mot tester said due to the travel on the pedal it would be a fail and wasn't worth starting the retest. I think I'll look at a different brand of fluid and see what happens.
  2. Yeah I did that. It made no difference to the brake pedal and I still get travel when I start the engine
  3. Update: I've replaced the master cylinder and bled the brakes with a 1 man ezibleed. I've bled the front and rear and I still have the same problem. With the engine off I have a solid pedal, when I start the engine my foot follows the pedal to the floor. Does anyone have any ideas? This all started because I replaced the front calipers.
  4. Do the water temp and fuel senders need changing for the different gauges

    Wow

What's the mounting point like. As its a solid mounting does it send any vibration through the chassis
  6. I've looked and the rear drums are fine as far as I can ascertain. The pedal has good pressure regardless of whether hand brake is on or off. What I have noticed is that as soon as I start the engine the pedal will travel to the floor when pressed. So is this a fault with the servo or master cylinder? Nicko I'm going to try your bleed nipple idea hopefully tomorrow to see if it highlights anything. Lastly if im replacing either servo or M.C is it worth going down the Ka route? My local factors has quoted me £47 +vat for a Bendix M.C but on e bay I can get a Ka servo and mc for £30.
  7. I've been bleeding with the handbrake on. Hmmmm I'll have to go have another look later Family duties first unfortunately
  8. I've been doing exactly that and its still not playing ball. I went from a perfect pedal to full travel in 10 mins.
  9. I've spent the morning on the brakes today. I've bled the rears and fronts. I've had the front calipers off and bled them upside down and on their side. I thought I had it as the pedal was rock hard so I put it all together again and took it for a spin and the pedal goes along the way to the floor. I guess I'm off for a new master cylinder.
  10. No, its the one thing I haven't done. As I only touched the front I've only bled the front. The fluid never got low enough to effect the rear.
  11. It's not the bleed nipples, I looked this morning and there is no weepage. I had pressure in the brakes but still quite a bit of pedal travel. Once I started the engine the pedal would then travel pretty much to the floor albeit with the brakes locking. I think the extra movement is the servo working so I think I'll be investing in a new master cylinder and see what happens.
  12. Now that I've had time to think about it, I think the weeping is just residue fluid. It only weeps when the rubber end cap is placed on the end of the nipp!e so i don't think there is an issue after all. Its just leftover fluid in the threads. I still don't have confidence with the pedal travel though.
  13. Right here's what I found. Although I was keeping a close eye on the reservoir to make sure the level didn't drop too low I think it was still dropping too low. I seem to remember that Simon and I had the same issue at the Donnington show last year. Anyway I overfilled the res and bled the brakes and now I have pressure. Once I'd cleaned up I noticed that both bleed nipples were weeping so I gradually tightened until I feared I would strip threads and they are still weeping. I've given the car aquick drive and the pedal is better but still not as good as it was originally. I'll try and get my mot first and then look at replacing the bleed nipples but as these were new reconditioned units I don't feel that I should have to at my own expense has anyone had a similar experience?
  14. Ah gotcha. I've got a proper hose clamp so will try that. Am off to try now so will let you know how it goes.
  15. I'm bleeding the new usual way, wife depressing the pedal and me slackening or tightening the bleed nipple. Ian, I've got rubber hoses but I'm not sure what you mean by using the card and checking each one in turn.
  16. Hi guys. I've double checked against the old ones and online and my Haynes manual. Im adamant they are fitted correctly and the bleed nipples are at the top. I'm sure it's just air but I've tried 3 Times now and still have the travel in the pedal
  17. Hi, My exmo failed the mot on a binding calipers so I ordered 2 and have replaced them both. I've bled the system and even bled the rears just to be sure. I've now got massive pedal travel and can't lock the wheels at all. I've double checked everything and can't find anything wrong. I can see the front calipers flexing as the pedal is applied so I know there is pressure there. As I never had excessive pedal travel before and all I have touched is the front calipers and these seem to be working what else could it be? Could it be that the master cylinder has given up the ghost coincidentally? Standard 1.6 solid disks and standard reconditioned calipers
  18. Mick, I'd love to upgrade and probably will, there has been talk on another post about brakes already being sufficient as the car weighs significantly less than the Sierra donor. A move to 2.0 calipers and hubs is my preference as my budget is limited. However when I consider the cost of hubs, refurbished calipers, new disks and pads I might be better off with a performance alternative. For now I think I'll just use a seal and piston kit and get on the road. I can already lock the brakes (servo assisted) so don't have too many concerns.
  19. I saw an LS3 motor in a white road runner in Colchester. It looked awesome. The owner said it would spin in fourth. It's a heck of an engine and a very small space but looked perfect.
  20. Cheers Jamie. I've looked at the calipers and the sliders are fine, looks like I'll be rebuilding the calipers. Does anyone know of a good motor factors as I can't find anything on ECP or GSF.
  21. That was going to be my next question. Cheers Ian
  22. I did wonder about that. It's all based on a 1.6 so was going to spray the hell out of it first. It's no where near finished but if I can get it road legal I can use it.
  23. Yeah am glad its happening. It failed on 3 points and I've sorted 2 of them already. I've got a binding front caliper so need to sort that sharpish. Are caliper seal kits easy to fit?
  24. I'm currently sat in the waiting roon watching an mot tester going over the car. It's its first mot in 8 years and I could be driving it properly later today. Nervous and excited is an understatement.
  25. One of the kit car magazines covered a Westfield conversion a few years ago. Well more like 8 or so. You might find something in the back catalogue. I'm sure it was kitcar magazine. Westfield Wiesel was the headline I think.
