  1. Had a lucky escape yesterday when I found that the NS front cycle wing bracket had cracked and was only hanging on by a thread. Yes I know....it's been posted on here a million times that the original design brackets on a 2B slidding pillar are not too good...but as I had already built up the suspension before reading these. I thought sod it, it won't happen to me........!

Guess I'm going to be busy this weekend to get ready for Newark....

Lesson learn't....read the posts first before jumping in with both feet!!!!

    Hi,

If you are at Newark or the Sheffield festival of transport show then I could meet with you. I have just fitted the doors to mine (pretty simple to do!) and hope to have a go at the roof in the next few weeks. So I may be able to show you or help you out as I'm not a million miles away. PM if your interested.

    Cheers

  5. Hope to make this one at long last. Be good to put some faces to the names...!

I've built up a bit more confidence in the car now and am pretty sure that it should make it in more or less one piece.

Think I'll also give the kebab a miss this time though!

Hope to see you guys there. :D :D

  8. hi all,

was wondering if anyone has a ready made dash to get me through an iva, simple as possible really.

beer tokens waiting, can collect if localish

    thanks

    Hi Steve,

I have just replaced my Dash (one I specifically did for SVA). So now have it spare. If you can come and collect (looks like you are only 40 miles ish away!) it's yours for the price of the Sierra clocks (£15) or beer tokens...what ever. I have put a photo below. Like I said very simple, but all works fine, also have the Sierra dash connector to wire it up. If you are interested then PM me. Got me through SVA with no problems, should be fine for IVA...

  9. Hi,

I have a small but niggling problem with my speedo. I originally had the Sierra clocks fitted, and it was noted during SVA that the Speedo was very inaccurate (only just passed as it was reading 70mph on clocks but only doing 57mph on rolling road!) At least I shouldn't get done for speeding.......

I have since fitted a set of Capri clocks and seem to be getting almost exactly the same issue..

I have 14" wheels with 60 profile tyres and using a type 9 gearbox.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Cheers

    Terry

  10. Hi, plan to be there, but you never know!!!!

    Nick

    Hi,

I was hoping to make my 1st meet tonight as I have now just completed the car, however looking at weather (no roof yet fitted!) Think I will postpone until next meet.

Nick think we PM'd each other some time ago, Perhaps next meet (weather permitting) we can meet up somewhere as this will be the cars first real outing......(i.e. I may need a push!...hopefully not!!)

Looking forward to meeting you all sometime soon and comparing notes over a shandy...

    cheers

    Terry

  11. Hi,

Having a few gremlins with the new dash I am fitting post SVA.

The old dash used the old Sierra clocks and the temperature guage worked fine. (Engine is a 1987 Sierra 2.0l)

However I am fitting some dials from a 2.0l Capri. Everything works fine except the temp guage when reading, goes to max temp within 1 min. I know the water temp is fine, so now wondering do I need to fit a different type of sensor in the block?

Anyone able to point me in the right direction on this?

I will sell my old dash to anyone wanting it (very simple and SVA friendly). Will try and post some pic's shortly.

    <_<

    PS

Great show! Made a visit to Rhocar stand on Sunday, (too far to take my 2B for it's 1st drve post SVA!) Definately try to make Newark!!)

    Cheers, B)

I thought it would be a simple one....

Also managed to get a snap of the simple Dash that needs a new home(below) If anyones interested let me know. All in working order and totally SVA friendly.

Comes with Sierra clocks and connector/ loom ;)

A few snaps of the car post SVA. Hope to see a few of you guys at Newark

    Cheers :D

  12. Well folks, anyone who knows me would find it incredily hard to believe that I have even got anywhere near SVA, nevermind passed it!

My superspec (Rover T series) had its first test at Beverley 2weeks ago and failed on the following points:

    - No self centering

    - Poor parking brake effort

    - Brake pipe too close to exhaust

    - Wiring too close to exhaust

    - Exhaust protrudes more than 10mm and doesnt have a radius (the rubber i fitted 2mins prior to sva melted during emissions test)

    - Universal joint on steering rack - no evidence of splines (they were there, so moved it back 1mm to demonstrate this)

    - Pedal pivot bar bent

    - Brake lamp switch sticking on

So i immediately booked a retest for 2 weeks time (which was today) and passed.

The whole experience was fantastic. I went feeling my car wasn't upto scratch in some areas (mainly due to rushing to avoid iva), but the testers (both original and retest guy) were fantastic. They had a positive attitude, were enthusiastic, and gave plenty of tips and ideas.

When i got my sylva jester tested several years ago, the story was far different. The attitude of the (different) tester as awful, and he was out to make me feel 2" tall. He failed items that he shouldnt and had no reason to (i.e. roll over bar strength, firewall strength etc) and it left me feeling bitter aout the whole sva scheme. He even implied that i should have given up with the jester....

So I do sympathise with the people who have experienced the less enthusiastic testers.

Now... I promise to be a more active member and to turn up to meets (as soon as i get her registered that is)

    - Sam

    Well done mate,

I had mine pass at Beverley 4 weeks ago 2nd time also. Found them to be pretty fair. 2nd tester was far better....he gave me the pass..Makes all the hard work seem worthwhile.. :D :D

    Cheers

  14. :D Took it out for it's first run yesterday to the DVLA at Sheffield for it's BUI. Couldn't have picked a better afternoon....Warm & sunny!!

Just a bit nervous as it is 20 miles each way with only 2 test miles covered so far.

    After treading carefully for the 1st few miles I opened her up.....WOW! :D :D :D :D :D

Talk about the grin factor, made all those cold dark nights worth while. Got to the DVLA without any drama's. Only minor issue I had was the pipe from the Rad to the header tank coming off in the DVLA car park (due to heat). DVLA gave me some more water, clipped on the pipe properly this time and gave it some welly on the way home. Had to keep checking my mirrors for the boys in blue though as I was getting a few looks without any plates...

Should have my "D" reg confirmed next week.

Off to get some earplugs now as my right ear is still ringing....perhaps exhaust is a bit too loud?? Nah....

    ;)

Only other issue I have is oil leaking from the gearbox, although I'm pretty sure this is from the bolts in the inspection plate (on top). Think the gear box is over filled so will need to sort this one out before I put in any serious mileage....Can't wait..

    Cheers

    The biggest grinner in town! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Well done mate, I got a pass yesterday also. Guess there will be a few newbies on the road this summer.

    Enjoy.....
