  1. Hi Rich, Welcome Add your location to your personal details. If youre darf sarf Paul Mercer is about 80% through fitting a turbo cossy lump. It'd be well worth a visit if youre close. Otherwise any kitcar show will have between a dozen and a hundred hoods for you to peer into & quiz their owners. And you will still be hacking off bits of bodywork which dont fit...... Sva Using 40's

If it runs better from cold, thats 'cos its running rich. I'd guess the jet sizes are too large. I too have failed MOT with my oldish twin 40s, so I have a spare 32/36 on a manifold just for MOTs. Shame youre so far away (from Kent) or you could borrow it. Anyone closer got a spare? Bob.
  3. Hi Ben, I fixed the clear plastic to the front of the dial panel, then used small brackets to fix it to the chassis rails behind the dash, so it pushed hard up against the back of the dash panel. The rear boot cover is a DIY item. Anything from a sheet of vinyl attached with velcro, to plywood, or aluminium for the two outer panels, and a ply boot lid on hinges. Take a look at some hoods at the shows for ideas.

    Steering Racks

Ive just fitted the RSJIGTEC wishbones which use a standard Sierra rack..4.25 turns lock to lock. But I also have a power steering rack (3 turns) which has a slightly different connection to the column, but is viable. I wont be using the pump, so it'll be a manual rack. I'll make the hydraulic circuits into closed circuits. to avoid dust/grit etc.. More later. Bob.

    Drive Shafts

If you just want to replace the boot, you want a BAILCAST DURABOOT from your local PARTCO supplier. It comes with fitting instructions, for about £8 each boot. If you need to dismantle the CV joint, that just makes fitting easier. Been there, done it, over the winter. Bob
  6. Hi Andy, an MOT isnt essential pre-SVA, you can get one done at the SVA station at the same time as SVA. The DVLA rule seems to be that you must have an MOT before they issue the first tax if you get an age related plate. BUT, it does give you a chance to shake down the car legally, bed in brakes, check steering, self centering etc. Plus an SVA retest is £30, an MOT retest is usually free, so you get another free, but legal ride out before SVA. I've even heard that some people arrange a first fail on purpose....... Bob

    Acceptable Engines

I can only agree about the K series head gaskets. My daughter has an MGF with 11k on the clock. It started losing water & bubbling. When I checked the dipstick, it had brown frothy foam & RUST on it. Back under warranty, but not a good advert for MG/Rover. Bob.

    38 Dgas Setting

Hi Phil, Ive had hours of fun with a DGAS, with a similar problem, cutting out with a flat spot before picking up on acceleration. Check that theres a good squirt from the pump jet in the centre of the 2 chokes into BOTH venturis. The DGV jet is identical but has only one opening. Dont forget there are 2 idle mixture adjustment screws. One other possibility is the non-return valve fitted in the pump jet circuit. Ive been told by WEBCON that it is a non-replacable item. If it doesnt work, pressing the pump forces fuel back into the float chamber. Take off the top cover & remove the float. Operate the pump & see if fuel swirls back into the float chamber. If so the carb body is likely to be scrap unless you can find someone who can replace/fix it. Cheers, Bob
  9. Hi Rizla, this site should help.... http://www.chris-longhurst.com/carbibles/i...tyre_bible.html Cheers, Bob Tucker

    Happy Camper

Hi Zip, I put my 2B into a few "run what you brung" days lat North Weald last year. Set up is 2.0, FR32 cam, st 2 head, twin 40s, about 145 bhp & std. back axle. Best time was 15.2 at 87mph, all due to being heavy with brick like aerodynamics. The car's just as bad. But I was never beaten by any production car I came up against. Bob.
  11. Hi Stu, I found one particularly hard piece of steel late one evening during my build. It got a lot softer the next morning when I changed my reversible drill to turn the right way. DER...

    Carbs & Fuel Pump

Hi Wozzer, I use a mechanical pump to feed twin 40 Webers. Engine kicks out about 145 bhp with no fuelling problems. Bob
  13. Bob at RSJigtec has located a supplier of much better quality headlamp shells. Cant remember the price tho, but he is likely to be at Stafford. PS all inside mine (October 2000) are now rusty, so I'll be saving up & on the lookout for replacements too. Bob.
  14. There was a good write up in Classic Ford mag. a few months back detailing what Zetecs from where fit anywhere else. They were fitting it into a MK1 Escort, but it was all relevant, clutches, waterpumps (BE CAREFUL...some work the wrong way), ignition & induction systems. Try & get a back copy. Bob.

    Fr32 And 2.1

Just to add my two pennorth...Euro engines did my stage 2 head and supplied an FR32 & followers fully fitted. Runs like a dream. Bob.
  16. I'm in too... I've got to get more use from the tent I bought last year for LeMans. Bob T.
  17. Try & get to the Custom Car Cruise in Orlando Old Town, I think every Saturday night...check with your hotel or the tourist info booths. It's all Yankee stuff, but still damn good fun for any auto junky. I'm hardly jealous at all...... Bob. PS tell RSJigtec Bob that my bathroom is finished at last, & I'm getting on with fitting his wishbones...(I collected them last February.....)
  18. I used a piece of thick carpet which had a thick plastic backing. I picked it up from one of the shows as a 6x4 (feet obviously!) piece. It also solved the problem of the bottom of the battery tray having a sharp 90% bend in the passenger footwell. Self tapped to the chassis rails over your knees, the side rail and the gearbox tunnel side. Mr SVA like it. Still there 2 years on. Bob.
  19. I am constantly astounded by the ingenuity of the die-hard skinflint Hoody.... Chopping boards for Q/S gearlevers..... Washing bins for exhaust covers.... Shower pipe for covering headlamp wires..... Carlsberg cans (empty!) for coil covers.... PS just sneaking down to recycle her old chopping board.... I even bought her a new one for Christmas I must have ESP, or ESPN or summat.. Cheers, Bob.

    Bhp Per Ton?

Hi Rizla, The usual figure is 1000 kg = one (metric) ton....near enough for us. So you have 226bhp for 627 kg so BHP per ton is 226 X 1000 (226,000) / 627 = 360 bhp per ton. Sounds like fun!
  21. Hi Perry, there are 2 completed 2Bs and 2 part-built just through the tunnel in Orpington, Bromley & Swanley. I'm sure we could arrange a round trip if you're close enough. But the completed ones are tucked up cosily for winter, so regret no trial runs. Email off group if you're interested. Cheers, Bob.
  22. Hi Graham, I set up my pillared 2B with zero toe in, and used a spirit level to get a small amount of negative camber. I had about 2mm gap at the top of the wheel rim with the spirit level vertical. The car self centres well. I also had to fit the TREs in from the top to get rid of a dangerous amount of bump steer. Bob.
  23. Tiger Racing use the standard Sierra pedal & cylinder without the servo. They use (& sell) a shorter pushrod, which is all you need. Take a look at their spares lists or give them a call.
  24. Hi Ant, I used vinyl warmed with a hairdryer & glued direct to the tube, it needs a bit of pulling & stretching to get avoid wrinkles. Note to self, must try that on my face...
  25. Has anyone else thought that a quick burst with a paintball gun at the flash and lens windows would be loads of fun? Still just thinking about it.....
