    Vin Number

HERE is what I did, letters 3mm on the headlight mounting plate, where it's welded to the chassis so when the bonnet is closed it is covered. SVA man quite happy with it only on one place.

    Side Panels

Have not had time to sort the link yet, so here's another 2 complete with watermark!
  3. I've just posted a picture of the underside of mine on topic title Side Panels. The car that is !!!! The only thing to add was locktite will do very well according to Notts SVA man.
  4. My donor was a G reg ghia, fuel injection. I kept the sub loom for the fuel injection as described on the Viki Green diagram. Nothing else. Kept all the bulbs and relays (see below) Had to buy a flasher unit, send me a PM if you need the details, Its bloody cold out there tonite! What really threw me was the relay's for the headlights. The coloumn switches had thin wires so no way were they going to handle the power and the colours did not match the diagram. I then found out RH have a relay pack available, cant remember how much though. Solved all the head scratching.

    Side Panels

I did the same as jetskijace, have attached a photo perhaps make it a bit clearer. Just be very careful as you pull the side panel around. Where the bonnet ends at the cockpit is where I have made a mess!!! :boohoo:

    Interior Above Legs...

I just stuck my hand up behind the dash and felt around for any sharp edges. The steering column bracket was one place I protected the edges with edging strip and the bolts with nut covers. The edges of the side panels both sides, covered with hi density foam then leather cloth. The centre consul went behind the carpet. As Guy says the lower edges of the dash were looked at very closely. I put edging strip around the lower dash edges covered with pipe lagging then leather cloth. The tester said he would have failed it if he could feel a sharp edge through the pipe lagging.

    Passed First Time

Thanks for the replies. I am still grinning from the ride home on Sat. Sorry I could not make it to Notts meet Sunday, but if Bobs Babe could give me some directions to the venue I will try for next month in the Hood. If not the hood the tin top will have to do. Is the meeting on 06.03.05?

    What Paperwork

I'm at the paperwork stage now but I have found the process well easy so far. Made up VIN NO (RH invoice No)_(Date picked up CCYYMDD)_(My initals)_(Number of cars bult by me =01)_(Wifes initals) 17 digits total. Applied for SVA 11.01.05 given date of 05.02.05. Rang DVLA asked for relevent paperwork to register a kit car. Booked car in for MOT ( passed 24.01.05) VIN No on MOT. Passed SVA 05.02.05 Rang DVLA asked how to fill in 2 forms I had been sent ( Built up vehicle report V627/1 and First licence application V55/5) These two forms along with fee, ID, previous registration docs, receipts etc, I am taking into DVLA Nottingham tomorrow. I will let you know how I get on.

    Passed First Time

Passed first time. Arrived at Nottingham at 07:30, test booked for 08:30. Mr Haresign started the test at 08:00 found some loose wires under the bonnet. Tied them up with cable ties. The foam I had put around the spring adjusting nuts was not adequate. So he suggested putting a cable tie inside some 1/2 in fuel tubing to put around the nuts so the corners could not be touched by the test ball. The RH supplies flasher repeaters have too sharp edges, needed rounding off to 2.5mm radius, and screw incerts filled with silicone, be warned. :gdit: Fuel filler as supplied by RH required some extra protection as it protruded more than 6mm. Thanks to Dave for providing some 5mm edging strip with a tie wrap inside. Fog light must shine Horizontally so had to be packed with fuel tubing at the top (not the RH supplied light). We then went into the test hall and to the speedo test, passed. Then emissions Passed after taking the air filter off, not letting enough air through, therefore too rich. Up on the lift, one lock nut missed off the bottom UJ on steering. Some cables needed protection from sharp edges. Brake test done but results have to be calculated. Noise levels 98.6db with standard RH exhaust and restrictor. We went into the reception area to wait for the paperwork. I could not believe it when Mr Haresign gave me the pass certificate. Thanks to all you for the advice I have taken from this website. I hope I can contribute something in return. See you at Stafford.

    Turbo Diesel Problem

My Vauxhall Astra oil burner suffered a similar problem, the airflow sensor was failing intermittently. The dealer said "It shuts the turbo down to protect its self" :gdit: Pity it did not consult me in the matter, I was into 3 figures, overtaking, on the A46 with no run off area. At least I had something warm to sit in !!! :boohoo:
  14. I can't see that passing the SVA with those kite marks on the headlight!
  15. Sorry if you have seen it before I thought it was All of us who feel only the deepest love and affection for the way computers have enhanced our lives, read on. At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated, "If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon." In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release stating: If GM had developed technology like! Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics (and I just love this part): 1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash twice a day. 2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car. 3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason you would simply accept this. 4. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine. 5. Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive - but would run on only five percent of the roads. 6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single "This Car Has Performed An Illegal Operation" warning light. 7. The airbag system would ask "Are you sure?" before deploying. 8. Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna. 9. Every time a new car was introduced car buyers would have to learn how to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car. 10. You'd have to press the "Start" button to turn the engine off. Please share this with your friends who love - but sometimes hate - their computer!
  16. We have received the following information - a bit wordy but worth reading through. Visa and MasterCard scam "A friend was called on this week from 'VISA' and I was called on Thursday from 'MasterCard'. It worked like this: Person calling says, 'This is Carl Patterson (any name) and I'm calling from the Security and Fraud Department at VISA. My Badge number is 12460. Your card has been flagged for an unusual purchase pattern, and I'm calling to verify. Did you purchase an Anti-Telemarketing Device/ Any expensive item for £497.99 from a marketing company based in Anywhere?' When you say 'No'. The caller continues with, 'Then we will be issuing a credit to your Account. This is a company we have been watching and the charges range from £297 To £497, just under the £500 purchase pattern that flags most cards. Before your next statement, the credit will be sent to (they give you Your address), is that correct?' You say, 'Yes'. The caller continues . . . 'I will be starting a fraud investigation. If you have any questions, you should call the 0800 number listed on your card and ask for Security. You will need to refer to this Control #'. They then give you a 6 digit number. 'Do you need me to read it again?' Caller then says he 'needs to verify you are in possession of your card (this is where the scam takes place as up until now they have requested nothing!) they ask you to turn your card over. There are 7 numbers; the first 4 are 1234 (or whatever as they have Your number anyway) the next 3 are the security numbers that verify you are In possession of the card (these are the numbers they are really after as these are the numbers you use to make internet purchases to prove you have the card). Read me the 3 numbers.' Then he says 'That is correct. I just needed to verify that the card has not been lostor stolen, and that you still have your card. Do you have any other questions? Don't hesitate to call back if you do.' You actually say very little, and they never ask for or tell you the Card number. But after we were called on Wednesday, we called back within 20 minutes to ask a question. Are we glad we did! The REAL VISA security department told us it was a scam and in the last 15 minutes a new purchase of £497.99 WAS put on our card. Long story made short. We made a real fraud report and closed the VISA card and they are Reissuing us a new number. What the scam wants is the 3 digit number and that Once the charge goes through, they keep Charging every few days. By the time You get your statement, you think the credit is coming, and then it's harder to actually file a fraud report. REMEMBER: THE REAL VISA REINFORCED THAT THEY WILL NEVER ASK FOR ANYTHING ON THE CARD (THEY ALREADY KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT US)!!!!. What makes this more remarkable is that on Thursday, I got a call from 'Jason Richardson of MasterCard' with a word for word repeat of the VISA Scam. This time I didn't let him finish. I hung up. We filed a police report (as instructed by VISA), and they said they are taking several of these reports daily and to tell friends, relatives And co-workers."
  17. Once again thanks for the replies. I have now an inline filter between the tank and Vauxhall pump with 1/4in tube. The engine runs a treat but not under load yet. The pump is so strong that the return is flowing nearly as fast as the pressure side, is this correct? Perhaps someone who has fitted this pump can let me know. Perhaps meet you at Newark. Thanks again Del.
  18. Thanks for your replies, this is the first time I have used the site but I will be back! Can I clarify that the feed from the tank needs to be 15mm, the RHSC supplied pick up (and guage tank unit) is only 4mm. Is necessary to put a 15mm feed in the bottom of the tank? The pump is mounted below the level of the tank so I thought once the fuel had been pulled into the pump the feed would be by gravity?
  19. I have a 2ltr EFI with the RHSC large tank, fuel pick up and sender unit, in a nearly completed 2B . The engine has been running with no problem. :gdit: BUT I replaced what I thought was a seized pump. All was well for some time then the new pump stopped with the same problem. :boohoo: Yesterday I raided the local scrappie and returned with a pump from a Vauxhall Caviller injection and the words "vis'll fixit mate" ringing in my ears. But vis didna! and after 5mins running this pump stopped. I am trying to keep the injection equipment rather than go to carbs right now. This must have been sorted by someone somewhere or am I doomed to having to carry a bootful of pumps for every journey? Thanks Del
