  1. Just checked my gallery but all mine have the rad in the way. Post a picture of yours and I will try and tell you what's different / wrong.
  2. Checked the float levels and they were way out. Set them correctly, cleaned and rebuilt and... IT WORKS!!! Have to use the cold start valves to fire it up so will be ordering up some proper levers but it works and sounds amazing! Will get a video once have sorted it out properly. Edit. Forgot to say thank you everyone for your help.
  3. See I read this and decided best bet would be map on dellortos
  4. As above, air needs somewhere to go. Either bonnet vents or side panel vents.
  5. Ignition key and immobiliser. As above this fulfils IVA requirements.
  6. Main jets are right size for the venturis (30ventrui 115jets) Emulsion tubes aren't matched. One side of each carb has .1 other side has .5 daveandrews site suggests .10s for a standard 1600 but I think .5a should be ok and will future proof for when I get round to fitting my 2.0cam. All other jets and tubes are correct. I am going to check floats and change emulsion tubes.
  7. So plan of action is to set ignition timing properly while the 34ich is on and to strip the carbs and make sure floats are set right and give everything a good clean. Then put back together using misab plates instead of the O rings.
  8. As balanced as can be without having engine running. Just put old carb back on. Started first time
  9. Tbh it doesn't run at all, just a couple of times when first fitted I thought it had caught but hadn't. Latest developments Fitted correct idle jets Set timing to approx 8degrees advance Checked spark on all plugs and all sparking in correct sequence and not 180degrees out When removing plugs tonight I notices two things 1: plug 1 was black, all others were wet 2: header 1 was warm, all others stone cold Would others agree that sounds like an air leak on 2,3 and 4?
  10. No, just straight off the mechanical pump which I have read should be fine?
  11. Doesn't need a steering lock to pass IVA so not having one come MOT can't be a fail. Mine is being built without one but does have immobiliser.
  12. I'm running the mechanical pinto pump. I believe they ran on the XE, but then I bought them online so who knows if they actually did? Setup on them as detailed above certainly seemed odd. I've got some new idle jets as I wasn't happy with the 50s as they are much too big for the engine and got some genuine new ones for much cheapness so will fit these anyway. I've tinkered with ignition timing and got no improvement, and it can't have even too far out as it ran on the previous carb and nothing else had been changed other than the carbs. Air leak I will investigate as its a possibility I hadn't considered.
  13. I'd be up for this and camping suits me. Will be in the Clio so can always put rear seats down and fill it to the brim with anything people need taking down.
  14. You are right the original spec won't pass, but not too much needs doing from my research (also completing an S7). In short: Strengthen rear boot area, particularly rear lip for harness mounts Strengthen steering column support If an early s7, strengthen roll bar supports and add bar for harnesses to travel over. If a later one may still need to strengthen the roll bar mounts. Clamshell / swept wings will fail IVA, so simple answer is move to cycle wings. Cycle wing brackets vary depending on front suspension type, if inboard like mine then 2B brackets do fit, despite what you may read elsewhere on here. About it off the top of my head, have a look at my thread in the kit car related section and feel free to message me with any questions.
  15. How do you get they are not a matched pair from that? Both carbs were jetted identically... The emulsion tubes were different within the same carbs. So one carb, left bank 7772.5, same carb right bank 7772.1. Same for BOTH carbs. The reason the linkage didn't fit was because the spacing on the pinto manifold is different to the spacing on the XE manifold they came off. Back in topic, are the idle jets too big to get the car running? Will my suggested purchases be ok to run the car on? Thanks
  16. Checked carbs over today and jets etc as below. Idle jets - 50 / 7850.1 Emulsion tubes right bank of each carb 7772.5 Left bank of each carb 7772.1 Main jets 115 Pump jets 40 Although odd, I figured it should start in those idle jets and the emulsion tubes although mismatched shouldn't come into it. So reassembled and tried gain with tweaks to ignition timing. Very crudely set the ignition to 10degrees advance, which it wasn't far off anyway and still no joy. Checked spark and all good. Plugs were black and some wet, though I put that down to how much I had been cranking it over without firing. The blackness from too much fuel through th 50idle jets. Before I order bits, I assume 40 idle jets and replace emulsion tubes so they are all .5s should be ok?
  17. Sorry I just spotted a typo in my original post, the engine will fire while cranking, let off and it dies. Though that's one or twice out of many attempts today. I'm going check floats and clean jets and while I am at it check the sizes in the morning.
  18. No it's not starting, I meant it seems to just about start while cranking, but then only runs for a second after letting off. I know wiring for starter etc is fine as it was running before. I'll check the jet sizes tomorrow.
  19. Ok so fitted my twin 40s to my 1600 pinto after sorting out the throttle linkage, however I can't get it to start. I assumed that the jetting and venturi sizes would at least run, but if they are well out (and judging by Venturi too small?) could they stop it starting completely? Venturi is 30 and I expect I need 34. Or... My timing was set as a best guess to get the engine started on a weber 34ich and really needed final adjustment. Could this need tweaking instead or should it be good enough if it was good enough to run with the 34ich on? I've managed a couple of what sound like almost starts but it dies almost immediately after letting off the starter Thanks in advance. Edit corrected typo
  20. Good to know bob. May have to give them a call, just ideally wanted to be able to go in somewhere and make sure whatever I got was right rather than mess around with mail order.
  21. Tried aldon earlier, normally very helpful but didn't want to know and just referred me to Eurocarb in reading.
  22. I don't know what make the original linkage is though paul, hence I want to take it somewhere to be 100%
  23. Mounted my twin 40s to the pinto manifold tonight and the spacing on the pinto manifold is different to the spacing on the XE manifold I took them off so now the linkage between the two carbs is too short (see photo). Suggestions on where to buy a suitably longer lever? Preferably west mids area so i can take the carb along and make sure i get the right one. Or ideas to neatly extend it?
