This is part one, finished it in time for Scotland last weekend, but the weather gods were with us and so it didn't get properly used.

Part two will see an additional piece being made that will make it into a full roof with rear window for overnight or extreme conditions.

  2. As it's our 29th wedding anniversary and I've not managed to persuade Laura that a kit car show is the best place to celebrate it, we won't be at Donington this weekend. Also I think I've used all my passes up for the annual work trip to Benidorm in a fortnight and my 6 day road trip to the Millau Bridge and back first week in October.

  3. either the flat or the pot flywheel will fit in the bellhousing, but you'll need the matching Vauxhall cover/pressure plate for it. Friction plate I'd recommend the Ford Galaxy/VW Sharon 2.8 V6 plate. If you're looking on ebay you may get lucky like I did and pick up a brand new two part clutch for not a lot of money, but make sure you buy the one that's 228mm as there are a couple of different sizes.

  4. Back and unpacked from a great weekend. Thanks to all who did the organising of the location and the driving routes. One of the roads yesterday was that fast, narrow and twisty that we had to have a vomit stop for a back seat passenger in a tin top. Great to meet up with Dave Castle again after five years, glad you're enjoying your move up north of the border, you haven't changed at all Dave.

Glad that Darren and Cheryl enjoyed themselves, it's always a bit daunting tagging onto an established group of friends for the first time.

  5. not too hard to do, you'll need an ignition controlled 12v power feed which you can daisy chain from one gauge to another as well as to your oil pressure warning light and ignition light. You may need to fit a 10v regulator if using Smiths gauges.

Daisy chain a feed from your lights to each of the bulb holders and also daisy chain in an earth.

You'll then need a wire from your fuel and temp gauges to the relevant senders, a feed to the tacho from either the ecu or the coil depending on what set up you have.

  6. If all you want is a destination rather than a chippy or pub to eat at then Carsington Water isn't far from Matlock/Matlock Bath and has a good parking area. Not sure if it gets locked up at night though. Or the Peak Outlet Village at Rowsley has a big car park too.

  7. Am I right in thinking you have a pinto that's been overbored to a 2.1? Using a standard 2.0 head gasket may not be up to the job and you might need an oversize gasket from one of the usual suspects, Burtons etc.

Do you know whether the mechanics who did the previous work did all the stages of tightening the head bolts including the final stage after running the engine for 20 mins?

  8. Insured my 2B with A-plan yesterday, fully comp with 5k miles and agreed value for £125.82. Added UK and european breakdown which will cover me for the two trips I hope to make to the continent and also legal cover in case it all goes horribly wrong. Cost of the insurance and legal was £40 less than my renewal notice from Frank Pickles and the breakdown cover is less than paying for two seperate lots of cover for trips to europe.
