Camshaft

HI Mat, it looks as though it is the same as the piper OHC 134 fast road which claims an increase of about 15 BHP on an injection engine. The duration is just up on the std 2L but lift is higher. Does it come with the followers? Piper fast road for carb engine is the 270, longer duration lower lift with same claimed power increase

Yeh i saw that cam as well, i believe it only came with a new spray bar :(

Ive been thinking about upgrading the cam in the head im putting on the 2.1 engine which i will be putting back in my car when i finish rebuilding it.

What type of cam is best for my engine? can anyone give any pointers? ive read the Dave Andrews site but it doesnt cover my engine

Im running a 2.1 SOHC pinto with an escort cosworth T25 turbo so there is not really any relative turbo lag to speak of as the boost come in very smoothly, and seeing as hoods and the like are not famous for top end speed and stability i would probably better going for something down the lower end on the torque range. I have looked and looked but am still baffled as to which cam would be best.

Any thoughts welcome.

Cheers

Stu

I do not profess to have any knowledge about cams, but I looked at Dave Andrews site when I wanted a cam for my Pinto, and it seems that the more radical you go with the cam, you will get more 'top end' power, but to the expense of low rev drivability.

Also with the 'wild' cams, you really nead to do the head work, valves, valve gear, springs, etc. so that the engine will not explode on you. Then you will need twin carbs to feed the thing with Go-Go juice, This can obviously cost lots of cash, and will reduces your MPG to bugger all, costing more every time you go out in it.

So if you want to be the "balls-out" nutter on the high street, when the sun shines, go radical! I personnally fitted an FR32 cam, with a 38 DGAS carb, I also altered the ingnition as per Dave's instructions, and was well happy. (until I put the Vauxhall engine in :D :D )

I had a pretty seriuosly modded Pinto in a Mk. 2 RS2000 about ten years ago - that ran a Burton's BLF 40/41 spec cam, that gave really nice power with a modded engine and 45's....

I am pretty sure they still make that cam now..
