hi all

Did some investigative work. The Type ZR made by MAC#1 motorsports where i bough some of my bits weighs 550kgs witha Zetec engine installed, 60kgs lighter than my LW. Now I was told that the alloy monocoque tub weighs in at 57kgs, compared to 120kgs of a traditional steel chassis clad with alloy. So thats another 63kgs which I should of saved.

Now i know the pinto maybe say 30kgs heavier than a pinto, but that should easily be offset by the saving in weight of the tub, so how comes my car is 93kgs heavier than the ZR :(  :boohoo:

Warwick on a crash diet from now on

You are forgetting that people building a seriously light locost will be using raceleda front uprights, carbon wings and nose, tiny alternator, shell seats, no trim and so on. They are probably not building for SVA either. Its not just the engine weight that is adding to your overall weight. Most of them exagerate things like lightness and HP to out-psyche their opponents.

Hi

If anybody gets a LW to under 500kgs using a car engine I will be surprised, I got no wipers fitted or washer pump as I took those off prior to MOT, I never even installed the electric fan on the rad. The only way really i could of saved weight would be to

1. Install a lighter motor

2. remove the carpet and trim which I fitted

3. Junk the spare wheel.

But even doing all the above, I dont think youd lose the 110kgs necessary.

I was disappointed because I was hoping for 500kgs approx :(

Warwick

Hmmmm...i was hoping for under 400kg!!! ;-)

Congrats on the MOT pass, Warwick.

BTW, just got my exhaust headers and rear uprights back from the ceramic coaters...looks cool as hell...chrome look, w/ the performance of ceramic coating, and a cost less than powder coating. I had it done by jet-hot coatings (they do a lot of the drag race exhausts).

Haven't made much progress on the car lately (new girlfriend), but at least the parts are looking good!! ;) Looks soo good, in fact, it has inspired me to actually post some photos, instead of my normal links back to my site.
