Scrubing Tyre

Recommended Posts

Have 2b4 plus with adjustable GAZ shocks at the front.

The LH side front tyre is showing a lot of ware on the outside edge. RH side no abnormal ware.

Can anyone suggest what bit of the suspension set up i need to change to cure the problem.

You will probably always scrub the LH a bit more due to a tendency to take Righthanders faster, should not be that noticeable though. Get a "laser alignment" done on it & then dot mark all the adjustable bits so you can set it back in future if you have to take it apart at any stage.

try the camber angle with a spirt level, use the rim not the tyre, if the levels too long cut a bit wood the size of the rim and put the level against it to see if there's a difference between the l/h and r/h wheels, i think it should be 1 or 2 degres IN at the top, make sure tyre pressures are the same. car height is the same both sides, and ground is level

It's normal to run some negative camber on these cars (top of the wheel tilted in). This will also help even up this kind of tyre wear. Wearing the outside edge of the tyre indicates either positive camber (or not enough negative), toe in or enthusiastic driving. Even if the answer is enthusiatic driving, increasing the negative camber will help even it out. Screw in the top ball joint on the wishbone a turn or two at a time and see the effect it has on the car's handling. Increasing it improves turn in, but too much and the car starts to feel twitchy.
