Carb Synchrometer

Do any of you lot with twin carb setups own a carb synchrometer, and if so how often do you use it?

I'm debating whether to beg, borrow or steal one, or just fork out for one - I don't mind doing the latter if I'm going to need it lots, but it's £50 I could do without spending if it's going to sit at the back of a dusty drawer!

Thanks in advance. :)

I'm pretty sure I've got one in my dad's garage in Cov. It didn't seem to be very high-tech but I remember it did work a treat when I was running twin 40's

looks like this http://www.gunson.co.uk/item.aspx?item=1813&cat=675

I'm over there tonight so I can dig it out if you want.

I bought a Crypton Carb Balancer in the mid 60s to do twin carb setups and i still use it with good effect today (they still go for a good price on ebay today ) so it certainly has paid for itself time and time over , reciently i bought two modern ones and i still prefer the old Crypton .

if this is to balance carbs an old trick was to place a length of tubing just inside the throttle body and listen to the other end.

Comparing the pitch and adjusting to make them equal worked in the past..... ( better than the Gunsons machine a pal had).

i once saw a ''build your own'' on the net but lord knows what I searched for to find it.

I have an proper air flow meter you could use. It is very accurate to set up DCOE's where balance is everything.

I live in Meashan, Derbyshire.

Another cheap trick was to use a loop of hose between both carbs with some oil in it I believe..... When the oil is stable & central they are balanced.
