never can understand how you can hit a curb in a roadcar at 5mph and be instantly killed but a rally car can drive off a cliff at 150mph and you can still open the doors at the bottom and get out with all your limbs where they were at the start

The biggest fear in that kind of accident is flailing limbs escaping from the broken windows. and things penetrating the shell, which caused the tragic death of Michael Park a couple of years ago.

 

Luckily the WRC guys wear the "HANS" collar fastened to the helmet and under the harness, the same as the F1 drivers.

 

Prevents excessive head movement.

 

Moved on a long way from my early days of tee shirt, jeans, an open face helmet. and a single loop and back brace roll cage.
