Name This Car?

It's definitely an MG ZT 260. Or at least it was.... the 260 could be a bit of a misnomer as the blower and extra valves will presumably up that somewhat. Engine is from a hotter Mustang than the original one that Rover fitted.

Could also be a ZT-T 260 - difficult to tell from just the engine-bay though.

MG XPower ZT 385

or which is super charged MG ZT XPower 500

Right then, mr bob got the exact correct answer, it's an MG ZT XPower 500. Jomeo69 was so nearly there too and some other good guesses, particularly the identity of the engine itself.

I took this picture at work today at Longbridge where we had free access to this car along with some other very rare stuff that I sadly can't share pictures of but as this one is already in the public domain I thought I'd share a few images.

The car is indeed based on the MG ZT260, but powered by a Vortech supercharged version of the 4.6 litre quad cam 32 valve Ford Mustang engine delivering 500 bhp and driving through a 6 speed Tremec T56 gearbox and a Dana Hydratrak lsd. The car weighs 1600kg, and achieves a 0-60 time of 4.6 seconds, 0-100 in 8.4 seconds and will do 190mph.

Wheels are 8.5" x 18" front with 245/40 18 tyres and the rears are 9.5" x 18" with 275/35 18 tyres.

This particular car was built by Prodrive and had appeared in a number of different paint schemes including Monogram Typhoon flip paint at the 2001 Frankfurt Motor Show.

With the demise of MG Rover in 2005 the car was left languishing at the factory before it was finally bought at auction from the Official Receivers by the MG Owners club who considered it's rarity justified it being rescued and restored and it is now on display at MG Motor UK headquarters , Longbridge in Birmingham.

on the 75 owners club there was a recent thread concerning a 75 that had fly by wire technology.

a guy had bought it from a dealership post rovers demise and all had been fine. Took in in for a service and the mechanic scratched his head and said "never seen one like this before guv!" he was than trying to sue the dealer for selling him an unrepairable motor.

seems there was all sorts of odd stuff knocking around in development.

the 75/mg coupe is a a cracker, pity that never made it, only about 5 years ahead of the audi a5 at the time! :aggressive:

pity we dont just decide to screw european law like the french and heavily subisidise national companies from time to time!
