Save yourself a ton of money and try a brand new Zetec, available for around £600.00 136bhp, maybe worth a thought ???

Firstly I would suggest that you do not overbore to 2.1. It's really not worth it for the power gains you get. I've said it before on this forum but I'll say it again......if I was to do my engine build again, I would keep it at 2.0 (eaisier on head gaskets as well).

If you want some "bolt on" power gains, simply upgrade your camshaft (FR32 is a good choice, although there are better cams depending on what power band you are after) and install a megajolt. The megajolt doesn't really add any extra BHP, but it delivers what power you've got a lot smoother.

If you want to get some machining done, go for bigger inlet valves. Don't worry about enlarging the exhaust valves as they are already oversized on the pintos (i found this out after I had mine enlarged).

Getting into some big money now, but you could buy forged pistons and cossy rods and then skim your head to significantly raise your compression ratio. This will probably see the biggest gain in power but also it costs the most money!

All I have is a standard 205 2litre engine, only mod is twin 45 webers, I plan on a fast road cam, but then unsure on what head work to do and either bore the block or use standard bores and forged rods and pistons and lightened flywheel

The engines are at agood price agreed but the rest of the installation can put another 1.5 /2k on the bill ,spend alump on the pinto and the rest on a trip to LeMans mower man

haven't done a zetec install so i can't really comment on if it is the way to go or not but thinking beyond the power of each engine there is also weight considerations according to here - http://westfield-world.com/enginespecs_car.html the pinto is 20KG heavier than a zetec and about 40kg heavier than a duratec. This must have a significant effect on both handling and acceleration? comments?

again not sure but i would think getting parts for a zetec is easier than a pinto. I know for sure there are no pintos in any local scrappy where i live. so you will have to go mail order/ebay etc. Maybe others can confirm/refute.

Depends on what you want i guess. The other way of looking at it is that you can install a standard secondhand zetec which is more powerful than the pinto to start with (which granted is more expensive install than pinto) but when it goes pop you can just buy another zetec and the re-install won't be as expensive as you will have the specialist parts to put on the next zetec. If the pinto goes pop it won't be quite as easy to get another and you will have wasted all the time and money on the tuning you can't now use. if that makes sense.

At the risk of repeating myself

Pinto injection head & thin gadket

FR32 cam and vernier pulley

You have the carbs

Rolling road session

Should see 130+ bhp

Rev limit will be 6800 to 7200

Cams with more duration such as the FR33 and any of the RL series will require more compression

I disagree,

135 ft/lbs of torque and would rev for England

I have a standard engine for the moment and it's slow compared with the injection head.

The dyno sheet is not clear but could be 130bhp at the wheels

Felt like it

I want to stick with the pinto, don't want to run any ecu etc, just want a spark and fuel and it's running, just purchased a 205 2litre engine to strip down and work on. So decided on the 32 cam, but unsure on forged pistons and rods

You don't need forged pistons unless you up compression to above 10.5 to 1

The FR32 will work with a thinner Felpro or Rheinz head gasket and that will give you about 9.7 to 1

You don't need forged rods unles you will rev past 7,200

The FR32 had peak power at 5,800 to 5,900 reving past 6500 will not make the car any quicker but you can hang on to a gear to past 7,000

I pm'd you regarding a set of 2.1 pistons already fitted to pinto rods
