Bad Back Puts An End To Plans!

Having finally finished my Zero and got some pleasure out of it on the odd sunny day, I have now got a recurrence of a serious lower back problem that is going to put an end to any further use of the car. The specialist says I have a choice of use the car or keep my back in shape - have chosen the latter.

The thing is, I have no real idea of what price to put on the car. It is a blue and S/steel Zero GT with 2.0L Zetec and all the trimmings. It was displayed on the GBS stand at Stoneleigh. Finished at GBS, IVA and taxed in June 12 on a '12' plate. It cost me getting on for £16K in kit and parts.

I realise that I am unlikely to get anything like that back but just wonder if anyone has a figure in their heads that might be fair on both sides when I am looking to sell it.

To say, I am gutted, is an understatement but I'm old enough and ugly enough to know that '*bleep* happens'.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if its to tell me I will only get a 'song' for it.

Cheers

Mike

Mike, sorry to hear this news. The reality is that you will never get back what you paid, but I am sure you already realised that. I suspect that you will acheive somewhere in the region of £8k to £10k with the right buyer. You may be lucky and get a bit more, but I am not convinced that this is the best time of year to be selling. Pistonheads is a good place to advertise. Good luck with the sale and with your own recovery.

you need to put it on piston heads with a price you want and see what happens, there is no market value as such just suck it and see. its a real shame but health is more important..

Fun first health later.... works for me.... i think.... infact.... thinking about it....it may not have worked for me :sorry:

Thanks for the prompt responses. When I started out on the build, I knew that one would never get back any money but had hoped to have a few years of fun for my money! Whatever, the value suggested is around what I expected. Will try GBS to see if they are interested or know someone who might be, if not Pistonheads here I come!

mog... Have you thought about keeping your car but hiring it out to less fortunate souls to enjoy for the day/week? Depending on your location it could be a perfectly viable business opportunity that can tick over? Look at your competition in luxury/performance car hire and also caterham hire for an idea of prices.... After all your car is better equipped for a week long tour of the Scottish highlands with it being a GT spec! Check your insurance obviously too re hire but it could be a winner? Keep car so you could use it very occasionally and it'd recoupe some cash.

Hadn't even thought about the option of keeping and hiring out - worth a thought given the financial 'hit' of selling it. Might also consider seeing an osteopath or like about the back.

The more I think about having to get rid of the car, the more I start to think 'well, what's a bad back between friends?' Guess SWhoMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed) will have something to say!

Hi monkeymite,

I have a degree of nerve root irritation. It is no problem for a large amount of time but if the nerve root gets inflamed, the trouble flares. As a retired professor of anaesthesia, have a number of former neurosurgery colleagues who generally say 'could have spinal surgery, or just don't aggrevate your back'. I have always preferred the conservative approach to the knife!

Thanks for the offer of help though.

Thanks for all the encouragement. I have the standard GBS seats and Keith reckons the new seats that they have are softer and better shaped. Might give that a try (but means even more money with no guarantee!).

Whatever, thanks to you all.
