Facts And Figures

I've mentioned on here before how I've logged the costs of all parts and fuel used on my kit car. Over the last 8 months I've also done the same for my tin top - a 1.8 turbo diesel M reg escort. (Ducks for cover  ) I've had the escort since last October, and the 2B on the road since last June.

All figures include tax and insurance, all running costs, and original purchase costs etc etc. No tools or stuff like that is included.

So, how do you think they will compare? What would anyone guess for a pounds (pence?) per mile figure?

I'll put the answers up on here in a couple of days time.

Ant

PS - I've removed the expenses sheet from my web site before anyone goes looking for that :p

BUGGER!!!

Well I should think that the running costs of the 2B are cheep because if anything brakes you can knit a new one :D Any component failurer on the 'Mild Steel top' will send the cost through the roof.

I'll bet the Escort is better on fuel.

What about the 'time' factor though?

dont worry about looking daft. i never do :D

i will say around the 90p a mile mark for the hood and the escort could go either way depends if its a good escort or a duffer that keeps breaking. for now we will say its a goodun and guess that it will be less than the hood ;)

go on be committed to a figure, its a bit of fun. just remember there is a fine line between a hobby and mental illness     youve been warned

Ant,

heres my stab at it......

the AA reckon (if i can understand the chart properly!) that overall running costs based on 10,000 miles per year, and a £10000 car should be 33.17p, this goes down of course the more miles you do, because of the basic "standing costs"

(its only a general figure though, because some cars depreciate more quickly than others Hoodz are an example of this, and probably the depreciation figure can be taken out all together)

standing costs for the car should be about 7p per mile (tax insurance, RhoCAR membership ;) , etc ) plus Ant's investment in the kit etc and build costs of about £5k, divided by 10,000 miles 50p per mile, added to the AA's standing figures gives a standing total of 57p per mile.

that added to the running costs acording to the AA or 15p per mile (minus the 3p per mile for servicing - which being a hoody ant will do himself!) should give the final total for the hood.

thanks to this and my proven "rubbish maths, i'll have a stab at 69p per mile.

probably miles out, (i think i confused myself somewhere in the middle!) but thats my two penneth anyway!

(who should be working at the dissertation!)

I haven't a clue what the cost per mile of running a diesel escort is. How can you put a value on complete and permanent loss of street cred. :o

On the other hand if you factor in the entertainment value times smiles per mile and add in the fun for a Hood it actually pays a profit of 47p per mile. :p

Guest Petemate

Hi Nigel

Great to see you again @ Newark.

Now, on to business. The bit about street cred bothers me somewhat, as I thought I couldn't get any lower than a Metro diesel (a REAL duffer's car) and was hoping to boost the cred a bit with my proposed purchase in a few months of - wait for it - an Escort diesel (turbo of course) . NOW what am I going to do? :(

Good to see you too. Its OK though Pete. You get double points for a Metro diesel. So wierd that the Kitsch :o factor comes into play. Sorry about the Escort! B)

Nigel

ps Just in case any one else wants a laugh my other cars are; Beetle, Favorit, Corsa, 106, GT6, VW Camper. (Not an oil burner in sight.)
