Hello!

Right, in a nut shell this is where I am... I have always wanted a kit car but in total honesty without help have not got the knowledge to build one from scratch. My uncle recently passed away and he had built a kit car before I was born and then decided to build another one. When he fell ill, I registered an interest in this and have recently moved the car to a friends garage on a transporter. The engine a 2l pinto does run and everything seems to work which has been fitted. The electrics are in and I have boxes of lights, (rear ones already fitted) seat belts, new seats are in but not bolted down etc. The bodywork has been primed but he kept losing interest in the project and coming back to it so the spray job will need starting from scratch I guess. I have a folder full if paperwork for the car, including details of a front suspension modification he had done and all V5 paperwork so as I can register with the original plate etc. the wiper motor has been fitted and I have the brand new windscreen and wet weather gear in its original packaging from when he purchased the kit in 1999. Now, I have heard that kits purchased prior to the introduction of the IVA can be problematic to get through the initial tough test? A friend of mine with far more knowledge about practical scenarios than I, has suggested we bolt everything on (lights, belts etc) and complete the car and take for IVA (not that simple I know) and worry about spraying later. This is because I am borrowing the garage space from a friend to finish the project - it has a pit and is large... Can somebody point me in the direction of where to start here?!! Thank you in advance for your time! I do have photo's if anyone wishes to see, they are apparently too large to upload on here as they exceed the sites upload limits. Ps I can't wait to get on the road and join you guys at the shows-if I can get the car on the road!!

2b was designed to pass SVA and luckily IVA is not much different, many have passed

Best option is to join a local club and meet with people who have built and passed kits that way you get practical hands on knowledge

This forum is the 2b specialist site and any other Robin Hood/GBS product.

Where are you located?

Hi Waspy, nice to see another Leicestershire member! We're getting quite crew together!

As Tractor says, join the club, will be the best £15 you'll spend on this project! We meet every month in Leicestershire so come down meet us, look at our cars & I'm sure there will be enough hands at different times to help you out - some more experienced than others!

Hi Wasp

Welcome to the mad house aka RHOCaR

Have a look at this and see if you can identify what you have to begin with, then we will know were to point you.

Like said get to a meet and get to know your local members, scrounge a ride every time you loose interest, a guaranteed way to get going again.

Thanks for this - I have joined the club and made contact with somebody from the Leicester crew. My car is a 2b, Ford Sierra donor vehicle.

Nice one Waspy! Welcome to the club! You should get yourself to Stoneleigh on the May Bank Holiday. You'll see lots of cars & meet us all. That way it might help you identify if anything is missing.

You could consider wrapping the car, this might save some pain & cost of a new paint job. There are lots of different colours & textures you could go for. There was a chap on the forum in Scotland who recently had his professionally wrapped for less than £500! A lot cheaper than a new paint job!
