Steering Rack For Exmo

Just noticed a crack in my steering rack, does anyone have a good used one for sale?

iv seen a few on ebay from about £70, is there an upgrade or quicker steering rack available without throwing the budget out the window?

I bought a quick rack and pinion from Rally Design but you have to rip the guts out of your own one so if casing is shot it won't help

As it's ally you could get it TIGed

i assume its just the original sierra donor rack???

yeah at £70 its maybe not worth getting it welded, did the quick rack make much difference to how the car drives?

Harder to steer off the curb

Easier to catch when back steps out but I can live with a standard rack

Plenty of standard racks on eBay but may need your old one of you

yeah doubt anyone would want my rack for reconditioning, iv seen a few older posts about power steering racks been used. has anyone done this and is it worth while?

I considered it but pinion is different and that affected column connection

The P/S rack is quicker than std. and cheaper than a bespoke Q/R, but needs a fluid system of sorts attached, cut and shut pipes full of fluid works.

do i need another connection for my rack then or will my column fit the power steering rack?

I use a Sierra PS rack. As Ian said, I have joined the pipes so its a closed circuit, & full of fluid.

It does not fit a standard column, the pinion on the PS rack is longer & has a different no. of splines.

But well worth it.

Still dont know what rack the Exmo has.....

if it's a standard sierra rack, they can be bought for about £35 from a motor factors.

surely an exmo owner will be along shortly to confirm which rack is fitted as std.

My Exmo has a Sierra rack in it but it was one of the first ones so I don't know if they changed at all.

Got the rack off today, no numbers etc on it but can only assume it's a std sierra one. I will post a pic
