You probably know already, but a nice route is Oakham - Cottesmore - Greetham (mind the 'gentle' speed bumps) - Stetton - Clipsham - Castle Bytham, brings you up nicely to the entry point. It's how I always travel back from Rutland Water, avoids the A1.

 

I'll make sure I am at the barrier about 10:30
