He30 (Aluminium 6082) For Brake Caliper Mounts

Any metallurgists in the house(Grim ) what do you thing about my choice of material for a brake caliper mount. Logic is that the calipers are forged ali anyways. Seems the highest strength in the 6000 series alloy range.

yes that should be fine. The key thing with the material grades is to avoid those containing copper (typically 2000 series, but some 6000) if corrosion is a risk.

 

You should be able to get it in the heat treated condition, but if it is easier to make it in the annealed condition, you can heat treat it at home in your oven! (if swmbo lets you).

Femi, I machines a brake caliper carrier for Terry's dad a few weeks ago from 6082T6.... This Ali is used where material strength is important

Femi, from a machinists point of view it's preferential to machine the component in its annealed state and then heat treat post machining as Andy suggests.
