Electrical Fault Bugging Me

I've got a bit of an odd query which is holding me up at the moment.

When I turn on the ignition, the ignition warning light and oil pressure lights come on as does the brake fluid light

As the electric Fuel pump runs the hand brake warning light comes on and pulses in time with the pump.

When the pump stops the light goes off.

Don't ask which wiring loom I have used, It is a brother in law special, he has done a great job but is away at the moment and I thought I may be able to fix it before he gets back.

I have earthed the crank shaft sensor wire and checked all earths

Still pulses when the engine is running.

Disconnected the hand brake switch but still the same

Clutching at straws really to see if anyone has any ideas

Thanks

John

Sounds like earth problems run a new earth for pump. As Bob says brake and fluid should be the same bulb with 2 earths one via the "test" switch on the handbrake lever and the other via the float switch in the brake fluid resovoir.

Just a shot In the dark but

1 disconnect the fuel pump and see what is happening.

2 "hot wire" the fuel pump straight from the battery and see what happens.

3 disconnect the pump earth and fit a unique earth just to the pump, ideally straight from the battery and see what happens.

4 leave temp earth and re connect the original power to pump and see what happens.

Then let us know the out come, might remove fault then we have a route to go down.

HTHs.

Also disconnect float switch and try again. Clutching at straws but could be that the volts drop caused by the pump is enough to pulse the light as the voltage rises as the pump switches off (each tick).

Item 2 if you try a hot wire to pump put a fuse in line with a switch that's what I had to do on my 2b years ago when I lost the feed to the pump

Peter when I said hot wire I meant as a temp measure to fault find if it became a permanent fixture then yes switch and fuse it.

10 foot of wire with a crocodile clip on each end will do as a temp cable.

Result, ran a new earth strap from the fuel pump and fault has gone.

Have now replaced the original earth with a new wire and new ends and is OK

The old earth wire looks fine but obviously was not.

Thanks guys, you don't know what a relief that is to me.

This one post has paid for my 2015 membership

Cheers all

Pleased we could help.

I some times found that when I am struggling the obvious / simple things seep through the colander that was my brain.

An "of course so" post pops your feet back on the ground.

I hate wiring but if you prune it back to 1 wire does 1 thing then usually the fault is found.

£15.00 !!! what an investment, too much for some though, sadly.
