Nervous Wait

Dave Ed

Recommended Posts

I'm currently sat in the waiting roon watching an mot tester going over the car.

It's its first mot in 8 years and I could be driving it properly later today.

Nervous and excited is an understatement.

Yeah am glad its happening.

It failed on 3 points and I've sorted 2 of them already.

I've got a binding front caliper so need to sort that sharpish.

Are caliper seal kits easy to fit?

Not cirtain which calipers you have.

If they have only one piston the most common fault is sticking sliders.

Have a go at cleaning lubing these up first.

Easy fix, no spares required

Cost, about half hour of your time.

You could even still get it passed today.

When you do rebuild treat your sliders with a good coating of copper grease.

Guarantee they will never seize again.

Cheers Jamie.

I've looked at the calipers and the sliders are fine, looks like I'll be rebuilding the calipers.

Does anyone know of a good motor factors as I can't find anything on ECP or GSF.

The other way to get rid of sliders is to uprate to Hi-Spec alloy 4 pots and 260mm+vent discs ,it is awhile ago but I got the whole set up for just over £300 possible over kill but it did stop well and no sticky probs mick

Mick,

I'd love to upgrade and probably will, there has been talk on another post about brakes already being sufficient as the car weighs significantly less than the Sierra donor.

A move to 2.0 calipers and hubs is my preference as my budget is limited. However when I consider the cost of hubs, refurbished calipers, new disks and pads I might be better off with a performance alternative.

For now I think I'll just use a seal and piston kit and get on the road. I can already lock the brakes (servo assisted) so don't have too many concerns.
