Torque Hub Nut - Spinning

Evening all. So, my alloys are on order and I'm prepping car to get it on the ground - exiting times.

 

Now, another question - how the hell do I torque the hub nuts without the hub spinning? I've got a torque wrench which goes to the required nm but I am stumped for ideas, I have both rear and front to do.

 

How did other people do it?

Put the engine in gear, put the handbrake on and get some one to stamp on the brakes.

 

Or two lengths of studbar screwed into the hub not holes and lock a long breaker bar against the floor. Just be careful you don't pul the car off the jack stands

The hand break alone should be well man enough to hold the car while torquing wheel nuts.

If it's not, it ain't not workin right.

Foot brake at normal pressure will definately hold it.

You are only talking of a little amount of mm, usually around 70lb/ft whatever that might be in the funny thingy's.

IIRC it needs to be 300 ft lbs.....ie at least 5 grunts tight.....

I'll try & check....

 

NB NOT QUITE RIGHT........250 - 290 nm

but still 5 grunts tight!
