I have just fitted a new water temperature gauge and sender but when the car gets up to 100oc the gauge just drops off like it's being switched off. Does anyone have an idea why this would happen? Thanks

Sender is faulty --- it's either presenting open circuit or dead short -- i:e no resistance for the gauge to measure.

test the sender when the engine is up to said temp and see how many ohms its reading and check with gauge manufacture to see what range the sender should operate between. Are they a matched pair ?

Is the sender located where it could be immersed in steam not water?

For some reason (I'm no fizzy cyst) it registers steam as zero.

could I jump on this thread with a problem please.

I am running a 1600 sohc from a 1986 sierra with the standard loom and dash. Dash works for everything apart from temp and fuel gauge(fuel not wired up yet).

I have identified the sender in the block(single wire), and the wire goes into the loom so difficult to trace. The gauge does not work at all, so could someone tell me how to wire this up - (I presume the sender acts as the earth). Any help/diagrams would be appreciated.

Many thanks
