hi how have you vented your fuel tank filler pipe, mine is the std sierra plastic neck into tank and has a small pipe coming off the side near the top and just vented out the bottom off the car is this the right way ? would like to fit one way valve as to let tank vent but stop petrol leaking out in case of a accident

The Superspec has a dual venting system.   In the top middle of the tank (Fiesta or Escort, we are not sure) there is a narrow (2mm?) pipe with a short piece of plastic pipe (3cm?) to vent the tank during day-to-day driving as fuel is used.  I guess this would leak fuel if the accident caused the car to be upside down.  There is a secondary wider pipe (8mm?) that goes from the tank to the filler pipe, just behind the filler cap itself.   This vents the tank while the petrol is being poured into the tank and allows me to operate the pump at maximum flow.

You must have a different setup Al, mine has the wider pipe but doesn't attach to the filler neck it just disappears downwards in the boot and I think it emerges on N/S rear

Maybe you don’t have built-in ‘T’ piece in the filler neck ?   Doesn’t really make much difference, although mine is probably less likely to dump fuel on the ground.

But I don’t see the point of Max’s setup, why would you want a vent pipe from filler neck to outside air ?

Your right Al mine doesn't have a "t" piece in the neck it's just a 3 or 4 inch piece of tube welded to the aero filler cap, I have now got rid of the CV boots that were used as a hose and fitted a proper fuel hose which is much better for filling up.

P.S you were right about it being a real PIA!!
