Loud tapping from engine bay

There is a loud tapping noise coming from the engine when it's running. Has anyone had this issue ? I'm new to the kit car game so any help would be greatly appreciated. I can provide some photos aswell.

Need more detail; what engine, when does the noise happen (at idle, revving etc), does it change as you rev?

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, ever since buying the car and moving house, I've lost all the paperwork and receipts. Based on information from other Robin Hood owners and the little information I got from the previous owner a couple of years ago, I think it's a 2-litre Pinto engine, and the donor car was a Sierra. Also, I believe it has R1 carbs.

So the tapping is during idle and yes it probably gets a little louder on acceleration.

when was the oil changed last? could be a little thin if it hasnt been changed in a while

A faulty fuel pump may make a ticking sound as it tries to efficiently deliver fuel to the engine.
