Crikey! Just LOOK at that ground clearance!!!!!!

Both my alloy sumps are about another inch longer than the one in your pic

I wouldn't bet on me beating a certain person to the SVA station as I too am thinking that the engine bay is not neccessarily the best place for the battery (GO GO Bill and Joe !!! B) ) or maybe also the screen washer bottle. Lets face it, it's only just suitable for restraining the engine in! Where does the supercharger fit...?

Went to the Ace Café Performance Ford night last night. It's the 2nd monday of each month I believe and there were some interesting Cosworths and RS2000s there. Also a couple of Zephyr IVs and 2 or 3 Cortina 1300GTs. No Hoods though. :(

If anyone is near or by Staples Corner next month, Drop by. They sell tea and chips! :p :p

Anyhoo, back on topic: I am awaiting the arrival of a Capri 2L sump and pick-up pipe, so watch this space....

Still might weld a 5mm skid on the bottom,if there's room!

Keep it coming!

Dale.

Being not to good with a set of spanners never mind a welder I cheated slightly.

Tiger racing do a modified sump for about £80 exchamnge.

I put it on my 2B pinto and it works a dream.

I believe there is a short steel Capri sump but they are pretty rare... mine has a sump guard which although it scrapes every now & again seem to have done the trick so far....

Personally I think something like this is a good idea regardless of how short your sump is, especially if it's alloy!

Dale - if your alloy sumps are longer than that one then I'd bet a pound that they're from a Sierra Cosworth and not an Escort RS2000. It may be worth you ditching them and hunting out a real RS2000 sump if you don't want to weld a standard one.

I however welded a standard sump and although I haven't covered a huge mileage with it the track that leads to my garage is pretty rough and the sump doesn't catch there.

Around 1.5 to 2". I don't have any problems at all but speed bumps just have to be taken very slowly. My new drive is the worst place it scrapes at the mo!!

Reckon the only place you'd have real trouble with my setup is over very short steep speed bumps like the metal ones you get at the ferry terminal for example as the wheels would be over it just as the sump came in to line with the top...

Iain,

I think thats a pound you've lost :D , the cosworth sump is deeper but it has and extra pipe connection on the side for the oil return from the turbo and 2 studs on the front for the crank sensor.

The only other RS I thnk it could be off may be the 16V Mk5/6 RS 2000 which was basically a pinto but don't know if it has an alloy sump so stand to be corrected.

Dale

The short sump from an orignal RS2000 (Mk1 or 2) is easily recognised by the extra box on the left hand side to keep the same volume as a standard height sump.

Cheers

Gordon

The lump on the side to maintain oil capacity and the welded baffle plate on the early sumps while cap head screws hold it in on the later one. Both have ford part numbers in them and, no It's not from the Cosworth as someone else correctly stated:no extra pipe on the side of mine.

Who do I collect the pound off....?

I would like to add a sump guard but I think I'm going to be a bit short on space underneath at present. Engine sits on the floor with the plough tube about 2 ins above and behind it.

Rats! engine out again....
