  1. I have mapped the loom that came with the kit by continuity testing every single wire, so i know what goes where but not exactly what they are for. I have searched high and low for any info but have only come up with 2b info. From that info it,s not a Vicky Green, it does'nt look like an Autosparks so what could it be and does anyone have any info on the Series 3 loom. I would like to join it to the relevant bits on the sierra loom and this is where i struggle. It really is a foriegn language to me and every time i lay out the Sierra loom on the studio floor i go all wobbily and have to go home for a beer and a lay down. HELP PLEASE.

    Haynes Manual

I'm still trying to suss out the loom that came with the almost unstarted series 3. I have spent 2 days (so far) continuity testing and numbering every single wire. Some are obviouse and some are not. One big problem area is that the wiring colours do not in any way match the sierra loom and i don't know what loom i have (circa 1997). Any one have any ideas what loom was supplied in 1997 for a series 3,3a. If i get this all to work there will be a complete wiring diagram put on this site. I suppose i still have the option of using the original sierra loom but its an old tangled oily mess and i can't sit on the sofa with a beer and fiddle with it.
  3. We need to hear it, and see it. how about a club meet at Santa Pod when your racing it?
  4. Sand blasting could be a bit agressive and very messy, if you can get to the areas that need de-rusting easily then use some wet and dry on an electric sander then finish of with fine and a block.
  5. I wizzed down the A130 about 9:45 ish and was greeted by blue lights in the front of a silver BMW. Now working on my mitigating circumstances to try and avoid a ban. Went to the show, saw the hoods but no one near so had a good look round and went home to slower back way.
  6. I can't find the info about how much fuel you can get in, but a well known problem if you have the Sierra fuel filler tube, is that it goes to deep into the tank and can reduce the filling of the tank by a 1/3rd. i cut a good 2 inches of mine and drilled a couple of holes close to just below the seal in the tank. Its not on the road yet so cant tell you how much it takes. By the look of the size of it i recon about 8 gallons. Put where you are in your info. As i am still building mine i am always keen to look at finnished series3's
  7. Once polished has any one tried using clear laquer to seal it or does it react.
  8. Add your location to your details, many club members would be happy to pop round if you are local to them.
  9. Phoned Europa, Very helpfull. They will send it back to the Manifacturers who will fit a new one. Its crimped on so i would do more damage trying to do it myself.
  10. Yet more thing to deal with. I have just read this and run into the garage with a tape measure and a block of wood 136mm long and 53mm. ran a bubble from the mounting and get 410mm at the very best. Could i weld a crossbar to the roll bar and fix as stated by Longboarder then loop the seat belts over and fix to the rear mountings? If i fit seats with seat belt holes how do i prove that they are strong enough?
  11. Spent a happy couple of hours cutting and grinding out the undersize holes provided by RHE to fit the Dials, four originals that i may change later and the Telemetrixs that were and expensive impulse buy. Then i droped it **##*!?.
  12. A little something for the Weekend sir?. Very funny

Does'nt 94mm get very close to the water ways at the water pump end? Autumn Totalkitcar article by Dave Walker
  14. Thank you all. All this advice taken. I will probably work on the air flow through the water and oil rads. I have already fitted some extra vents to flow air in and am now looking at getting the hot air out from the engine bay.

    Car Cost

The "part built" that i bought only had the rear suspension fitted nothing else had been touched, however the donor had been stripped ( better for space but i could have done with it on the driveway) and it was a comprehensive kit with everything RHE could supply. Worked out at about half the cost of a the original puchase price. My biggest expenses have been stainless nuts and bolts, drill bits, garage tools and an over indulgance on things i wont need for months at Europa and Deitling.
  16. The grill was done from an asthetic point of view and is easilly removed what i am realy concerned about is not fying the engine as it will make good BHP when it all comes together. An oil stat is already in the box of bits to fit. Europa have fans for sale at £46.52, the same type from PC World are £19 although you can get them from about £9. I scavenged mine from old PC's on the basis that if they didn't last to long i could just get a couple more.

    Car Cost

Myself and a guy round the corner have seperately picked up part built kits with nearly everthing included. a very good way to start. I am up to £2,600, need wheels and tyres, would like good seats but they can wait, and i will spend a lot on the engine. About £4,500 to SVA. Now this is the conundrum as you can buy a finished Hood with SVA for around this price and drive it now.
  18. Thats great thank you, I will put on the fans as i have them and will work on the cowling. I was also intending to fit the heater for the longer journeys and that extra capacity. I still remember the old cars as a young man, that needed the heater on full blast in the middle of summer all the way to Yorkshire. I fried for love, then crashed and burned some more.
  19. I have a growing paranoia about over heating and as i dont want to take the nose off once it is fully built, i am trying to ensure good cooling. The grill is a bit restrictive so that may have to go in place of the barbicue grill. I have installed the standard cortina rad but may change to the coolman. I have an oil cooler in place behind the rad which has an electric fan pushing through. At Brands i saw some cars with what looked like cooling fans from a computer on the oil cooler and have got hold of a couple already..... How to wire them up. Do i use the water thermostat or should i try and get a seperate thermostat in to the oil some how. Or is it not worth the trouble?

  21. I thought was the normal place for people in long term relationships to sleep when the other partner has consumed freely of the falling down water and is either snoring for England, or asking (in his sleep) to "pass me that spanner". In my case..Both.

Took a while but i think the plugs are only to blank of the lambda sensor holes. Or is to set off the flames?
  23. Z cars, real people, talk cars cause they love it. Mad as a box of frogs, if they could get 4 bike engines in a mini I know they would.... This one has a Civic Tyre R in it....
  24. AWSOME. So many great cars going for it big time and so many people that were happy to talk and not just sell. The rumour is that Brands were very happy and it may become a fixture. I hope so. The 7 types were of course the cheapest of the kits, but you can still spend an awfull lot, and the amount of work and detail that people have put in to them humbles me.
