  1. I had an oil leak in the same sort of area. I looked like it could either be the dizzy or the fuel pump. I changed the O ring on the dizzy and the gasket on the fuel pump. the leak was still there. Over the winter I tracked it down. It was just one of the jobs on the to do list while the car was on SORN. It turned out to be the auxiliary shaft oil seal. The oil was travelling round to the fuel pump and dizzy area when the car was being driven.

  2. I had the same problem as you when I first fitted R1 carbs. The main problem on these carbs is the narrow amount of carb body available for the standard width jubilee clip to seat. I ended up grinding each of the clips down to make them narrower which allowed them to sit behind the narrow lip on the carb body. This was a bit of a fiddle but has worked so far. I also fitted a bracket from the carbs to the engine block which greatly improved the stability. Remember to keep smiling!

  4. I have a pointless dizzy on my 2.1 pinto. I also previously had twin 45s fitted. The vacuum advance was not connected and the car ran fine. Just as an experiment I connected an advance tube and the engine ran like a pig. I now have the same dizzy without the vacuum advance and bike carbs. Runs fine. As said in the post by emptyat the bob weights in the dizzy take care of the mechanical advance as the engine revs increase.

  5. Has anyone fitted a Starter motor from "aapoldham". They sell the uprated 1.4 heavy duty type for the Pinto. I just wondered if they are any good or not. I look forward to your comments as usual. :search:

  6. With the nose cone off I can get to the back side of the shocker bolt from the front with no problems. The thing with kit cars, as you will have noticed, is that they are all different even if the basic model/kit is the same. You never see 2 the same at kit car shows. Keep trying you will solve the problem. It may involve a lot of cussing and skinned knuckles but keep smiling. :crazy:

  7. Why don't you fit the cycle type mud guards. They are a lot more aerodynamic. The Clam shell type are shaped in a way that they are trying to lift the front of the car. The faster you go the more this effect comes into play, thus the handling can also be altered as the front end becomes lighter. Just my opinion. :crazy:
